Sonora Foundation $8,000 Grant Extends Mind Matters Services

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 06/04/2014 11:08 PM
Murphys, Ca...An $8 thousand grant from the Sonora Area Foundation will make it possible for Mind Matters, the Murphys based clinic that treats autism and related disorders, to extend its programs in Tuolumne County. “It is our goal to provide our multi-faceted services in Tuolumne, Amador and Calaveras counties,” states Dr. Ryan Thompson, the clinic’s founder and CEO/Medical Director. “Through the years, the generous contributions from the Sonora Area Foundation have helped us pursue that goal.” Since 2010, the foundation has made grants totaling $40 thousand to Mind Matters. This money has been used to provide such programs as Fast ForWord, a computer based reading and language intervention program, to young people in Tuolumne County. This program has proved to improve reading achievements in area students...

Wines of the World at the Historic Murphys Hotel, June 12th, 2014

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 06/01/2014 11:36 AM
Murphys, Ca...Join us on the lawn at the Historic Murphys Hotel at 5:30pm for a wine and cheese pairing class with Judy Creighton. Judy will present cheese with award winning wines from the 2014 Professional Wine Competition at the Calaveras County Fair. Wines of the World is an integral part of the wine associations educational program. Cost for CWA members is $20 and $25 for non-members, ($5 more than our usual pairing as we are providing cheese). Guests are welcomed to dine at the hotel afterward with a $5 discount on each entrée. For more information, call 728-9467 or visit on-line at calaveraswines.org. Judy Creighton has been teaching cheese classes in San Francisco for nearly 30 years. With her experience as owner of two cheese shops, she offers a wealth of knowledge and perspective about American and international cheeses. June's First Friday in the Park - June 13, 2014

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 06/01/2014 08:47 PM
Murphys, Ca...To kick off this year’s season of First Fridays in the Park neighborhood concerts, the sponsoring Murphys Community Club is actually staging the June event on the second Friday of the month, June 13, to avoid a conflict with the graduation ceremony at Bret Harte High School. “It has become a tradition to move our June performance ahead seven days,” states MCC president Suzanne Friedman. “With many of our families involved with Bret Harte we don’t want to compete with the school’s important year-end celebration.”From June to September, First Friday in the Park will feature a performance by a local musical group playing in the iconic gazebo starting at 5:30 p.m. From 5 p.m., a special dinner will be available for purchase at $10.00 per person and a featured local wine will be on sale along with other beverages. Friends and neighbors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a small town America gathering in the cool confines of Murphys Community Park....

Michael Oliveira Sets The Record Straight

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/31/2014 01:15 AM
Arnold, CA...When I decided to run for Calaveras County Supervisor District 3, I was determined that my campaign would be run in an ethical manner based on the issues, and without attacking my opponents or ‘dirty tricks’ which I’m proud to say we have honored. Unfortunately, not everyone operates with the same ethics or morals. I knew that running for public office would open the door to personal attacks, rumors, mistruths, and innuendos which are common place in politics. What is not common place is the personal attacks directed at my campaign volunteers that are not running for office, nor do they make policy decisions for my campaign. I’m writing to you today to clarify and dispel several mistruths being touted by an opponent; Mistruth #1: The Oliveira Campaign is telling people that Mike Borean wants to restrict/close access to public lands....
