Connecting With People Through Images

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/11/2014 10:16 PM
Murphys, Ca...Mountain Christian Fellowship in Murphys will be hosting an international photography and film event on July 20th at 6PM at their worship center on Highway 4. The event will highlight the work of Rob Darby, native of Angles Camp, now living in Thailand. Through printed images and video, Rob will share stories from his travels in Europe and Asia. His wife, Veronica, will also be sharing her own stories about the work she is doing against human trafficking in Thailand. “I enjoy using my photography as a tool to connect with people and to add value to their lives.” says Rob. “Recently, I’ve been able to work more with video and film-making. I’m part of a team that makes films for indigenous people groups. Films made in their language, using their own people as actors. Films they can relate to. It’s awesome to think that for many of these people groups, ours are the first films they have ever seen in their own language!” Rob will be showing his team’s most recent film at this event. It’s a story of a young Buddhist boy from southern Thailand who has been stigmatised with bad karma, but finds acceptance through his kind uncle who shares his same struggle...

Your Internet Broadband Advocates at Central Sierra Connect Want To Know...Have You Been Tested Yet?

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/10/2014 09:00 AM
Central Sierra Connect is a program of the Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency. Our vision is to bridge the digital divide by bringing broadband to the people and the people to broadband. Right now, that vision is threatened by inaccurate information being used by decision makers in Sacramento and Washington D.C. Our region needs high speed, broadband Internet service in order to grow and prosper in today’s economy. We need to get accurate information into the hands of those who fund the projects that can make that happen. To do that, we need to know about the Internet service you receive at your home and business addresses. And we've made it super easy to do – it only takes 5 minutes! Just click below or on this link to access the Internet Service Reporting Form: http://bit.ly/cscmapping

Mike Ryan Honored as July 2014 Mentor of the Month

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/10/2014 01:18 PM
Murphys, Ca...The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is pleased to honor Murphys resident Mike Ryan as its July 2014 Mentor of the Month. Mike, a seven-year resident of Forest Meadows, has been partnered with his eleven-year-old mentee, Nathan Leon, for just over a year. “Mike approaches mentoring with a wonderful enthusiasm and attention to his mentee,” said Colleen Dolan, Coordinator of Mentoring Programs for the Calaveras County Office of Education. “When I asked Mike if he wanted to mentor Nathan for a second year, his response was, ‘Whatever Nathan wants, I can do!’” Mike and Nathan both enjoy being outdoors and exploring the history of Calaveras County. The two of them have taken many trips around the area visiting Moaning Caverns and Columbia State Historic Park. “One of Nathan’s favorite things to do is to go out exploring the hills around our property on one of our ATVs,” said Mike. “And that just happens to be one of my favorite things to do too! We’re a great match.”
