Murphys, CA...Qualified cash or deferred arrangements (CODAs) permitted under Section 401(k) of the Internal Revenue Code, commonly referred to as "401(k) plans," have become one of the most popular types of employer-sponsored retirement plans. How does a 401(k) plan work? With a 401(k) plan, you elect either to receive cash payments (wages) from your employer immediately, or defer receipt of a portion of that income to the plan. The amount you defer (called an "elective deferral" or "pretax contribution") isn't currently included in your income; it's made with pretax dollars. Consequently, your federal taxable income (and federal income tax) that year is reduced. And the deferred portion (along with any investment earnings) isn't taxed to you until you receive payments from the plan.

Bret Harte High School Cybullfrogs Club Receives Grant from Calaveras Community Foundation |

Angels Camp, CA...Cybullfrogs, a Bret Harte High School LegoRobotics club, has received a $9964.00 grant from the Calaveras Community Foundation. This is the second year the Foundation has generously helped fund Cybullfrogs. The money will be used to expand the club, now in its second year, so that more students will be able to participate in the hands-on building of programmable robots. Since its inception in March, 2014, the club has grown to 24 students, increased the number of female members, and hosted competitions/exhibitions with teams from six other local schools. With this generous donation, advanced club members are working on their Remotely Operated Vehicles, robots which perform underwater. Real life ROVs are used with nuclear submarines, in marine technical fields, and exploration in the offshore oil and gas industries.

Murphys, CA...Close to 300 bicyclists from throughout Northern California and Nevada enjoied the spring beauty of Calaveras County and took part in the ninth annual Mr. Frog’s Wild Ride April 16. Two scenic routes, the Wild Ride of approximately 50K and the Wilder Ride of approximately 100K, took riders through the county’s verdant countryside at the height of the wildflower season.

The top wineries, restaurants and artists of Calaveras County will converged at Ironstone Vineyards, for the tenth annual Taste of Calaveras April 16. To top off the perfect mix of wine, food and art, The Bob Eisenmann Jazz Trio will performed in the Breezeway. “This event is always fun and filled with friendly competition,” explains Brian Goss, co-owner of the Murphys Historic Hotel and long-time Taste enthusiast. “The goal is to be able to showcase the best of Calaveras food, wine and art in one place and this event is just that. A true Foodies Paradise!”
