Groveland, CA...Last night, firefighters conducted a burning operation from Paper Cabin Ridge down to the Tuolumne River and south from Duckwall Mountain to Skidmore. Crews secured fireline around spot fires in Reynolds Creek and dozers worked on constructing fireline north from Duckwall Mountain towards Fahey Meadow. In the southern part of the fire, crews secured the line near Pilot Ridge and near the border of Yosemite National Park. Rim Fire Evening Update ...192,466 Acres or 301 Square Miles, 30% Contained, $39.2 Million So Far

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/28/2013 06:39 PM
Groveland, CA...Firefighters used aerial ignitions today to burnout Pilot Ridge on the southern portion of the fire. The burnout planned from Hetch Hetchy Reservoir south to Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park did not occur. Conditions were not conducive to lighting and containing the fire. Firefighters continue to provide structure defense and improve firelines. The California National Guard is operating a remotely piloted aircraft to help efforts to contain the fire. It will identify where fire activity is located, how it is moving, including locating and identifying spot fires. It will improve the ability to protect life property and natural resources. The Tuolumne County Sherriff’s Office has lifted the evacuation order and PG&E has restored power to Graham Ranch Road, allowing residents only to return home. Tonight, crews will continue with burning operations as long as weather conditions allow, and will construct and improve firelines...

Rim Fire Am Update... 179,481 Acres, 20% Contained, Total Fire Personnel: 3,752, Fire Engines: 460, Fire crews: 71, Helicopters: 15, Dozers: 60, Water Tenders: 43 Updated Maps

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/27/2013 08:30 AM
Groveland, CA...Conditions: Fire crews had their hands full with very active fire behavior today. Near Duckwall Ridge, the fire spotted across the line with crews working to control the spot. The fire also crossed the 3N01 road in Reynolds Creek, prompting an expansion of the evacuation advisory in the Highway 108 corridor. Fire crews also were working to contain a spot fire in the southeast portion of the fire as it crossed to the south of Highway 120 at Ackerson Flat. Firefighters were successful in completing dozer line below Pilot Ridge, effectively slowing the fires spread in this location. Tonight crews will continue to work the three spot fires, as well as continue construction on contingency lines and provide structure protection throughout the fire.

(Updated...Maps are below) We are still waiting on today's maps. So the above photo is a place holder so to speak. We are unsure the origin of this photo. Some of the Rim Fire photos have passed through enough hands that an origin is hard to establish. If you took this photo we would love to give you credit. It is obviously of a cow observing a back firing operation.

As you can see from this map the fire is most of the way along the Hetch Hetchy on the western side and continues to make further inroads into Yosemite National Park
