Deceased Man Found In Lake Tulloch..UPDATED WITH DECEASED NAME

Copperopolis, CA... On 10/28/14 about 4:00 P.M. a citizen passing by on the Lake Tulloch Bridge saw what appeared to be a body in the water near the Tuolumne County side of the lake near the bridge. A Deputy was dispatched and located a body submerged about ten feet from shore in approx. ten feet of water. On the shore line near the body, the Deputies found a fishing pole and related fishing gear....

Jamestown, CA...On 10/23/14 about 6:25 P.M. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the 18000 Block of Seco Street in Jamestown, CA on a report of a homeowner who had just “shot a burglar”. Upon arrival Deputies met with the male homeowner who advised that he had just returned home and found a burglar in his residence. The homeowner was armed with a handgun due to a previous burglary on his property. The home owner confronted the male intruder who “ran at “ the homeowner. The homeowner fired one shot which struck the male intruder in the leg. The intruder then fled the scene...

Shooting On Seco St. In Jamestown (Suspect In Custody)

Jamestown, CA....The initial raw bit of information are that a homeowner shot an intruder on Seco Street. The intruder was wounded but escaped. Deputies are searching area and focusing on a shed nearby. Local hospitals have been notified to be on lookout for an injured patient. As with most breaking stories the details probably will change as the Sheriff's Office does their report...(Update as of 8:20pm...Scanner traffic indicates a suspect may be in custody)

New Forest Supervisor to Speak at Tuolumne County Farm Bureau Annual Dinner

Sonora, CA...The Tuolumne County Farm Bureau is hosting its 66th Annual Dinner and Meeting on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Tuolumne County Sheriff Posse Clubhouse at 19130 Rawhide Road, Jamestown. Jeanne Higgins, our new Forest Supervisor for the Stanislaus National Forest, will be the guest speaker. The event starts at 6 p.m. with the No Host Social and continues with Tri Tip and Chicken Dinner at 7 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling the Farm Bureau Office at 533-8386. Dinner is $25 if reserved by Monday, October 20, 2014. Tickets at the door are $30. A fund raiser for the Ag in the Classroom program will be held at the event...

Rocklin Man Loses Life In Early Afternoon Motorcycle Accident

Jamestown, CA...This afternoon at 12:38pm a 52 year old Rocklin man was riing his 2004 BMW motorcycle with a side car eastbound on Hwy 120 east of Tulloch Dam Road in the number one lane. As he approached a right hanc curve in the roadway, he allowed his motorcycle to travel off the north side of the roadway. The BMW traveled down a small descending dirt embankment and collided with a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger was mediflighted to a local hospital with major injuries...

Dog Rock Fire Update #1 10 PM - Hwy 140 Closed, Yosemite Valley Without Power

Yosemite, CA...Dear Yosemite, below is our update on the developments of the Dog Rock Fire. We plan to update employees as new information is available: The Dog Rock fire began along the El Portal road near Dog Rock around 2:30 p.m. today. The cause is unknown. Highway 140 will remain closed until further notice due to fire operations and accident investigation. We anticipate this closure to be in place for 24-48 hours. Yosemite Valley will remain off power for the next 24 hours. Power will be restored as quickly as possible. The fire is 150 acres without containment estimates. Aviation resources will be heavily utilized to contain the perimeter. Evacuation orders are in effect for residents of Foresta. These evacuations will be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so....

Pilot Killed in Fatal Airtanker Crashed Identified

Sacramento, CA...CAL FIRE officials today released the identity of the pilot killed in yesterday’s airtanker crash in Yosemite National Park. Geoffrey “Craig” Hunt, age 62, of San Jose was a 13 year veteran pilot of Dyncorp International under contract with CAL FIRE. “We continue to mourn the tragic loss of Craig,” said Chief Ken Pimlott, CAL FIRE director. “We know wildland firefighting is an inherently dangerous job, but Craig made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Dog Rock Fire Update #2 October 8, 2014

Yosemite, CA...“On behalf of Yosemite National Park, we would like to express our deepest condolences for the loss of the Cal Fire pilot, Geoffrey “Craig” Hunt, who lost his life yesterday fighting the Dog Rock Fire in the park,” stated Don Neubacher, Yosemite National Park Superintendent. “He died while providing a great public service and we share in the mourning and sadness of this loss with our Cal Fire brothers and sisters. Wildland firefighting is an inherently dangerous job and we thank Cal Fire for all their support and sacrifice. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.” The Dog Rock Fire, which began October 7, 2014 in afternoon near El Portal, is currently at 246 acres, with 10% containment....

Cal-Fire Tanker Goes Down Fighting Dog Rock Fire

Yosemite, CA...We are saddened to report that this afternoon one of our S2T air tankers crashed while fighting the Dog Rock Fire in Yosemite National Park. The rescue personnel are at scene working through extremely rough terrain to determine the condition of our pilot. Please join us in keeping our Pilot and their family in our thoughts and prayers...
