Busy Night in Don Pedro Area

Don Pedro, CA...There were several fires along J-59 last night. There were two main fires of 17 & 40 acres plus a couple of spot fires. The fires kept crews busy from about 7pm until after midnight. We will post the fire report as soon as it comes in. The cause is under investigation. We would like to thank Lt. Robert Anzar of TCFD for sending in the photos...

Electrical Power Transformer Cause of Small Grass Fire in Columbia on Sunday

Columbia, CA....A 1/4 acre grass fire broke out on Sunday at the 21000 block of Shaws Flat Road. Cause of the the fire was an electrical power transformer. Damages were $50. CAL Fire released enclosed...

Fire News...Vegetation Fire in Groveland Area

Groveland, CA...Crews are responding to a 2 acre wildland fire in heavy fuel. The fire is near Sprague Road on the North side of Hwy 120. There were reports of a power outage in the area and there are power lines down in association with this fire. There are a few units on scene now and more on the way. More to follow...Update as of 9:47pm...they now have a dozer line around the fire and it is holding in the 2 acre range...

Guide Dogs for the Blind began in 1942 as a dream for two men Lois Merrihew and Don Donaldson who had a strong desire to “help wounded servicemen who would return from World War II without their sight.” Their firm belief that the full potential of dogs had yet to be tapped, believing they could serve as guides for the blind, they incorporated a school in a rented home in Los Gatos, California where they began training of their ‘students.’ The first dog to be trained was rescued from a Pasadena pound. She was “later paired with Sgt. Leonard Foulk, the first serviceman to graduate from the new school.”....

Rainbow Pool open after completion of stimulus project work

Sonora, Calif. (August 26, 2010)…Stanislaus National Forest Groveland District Ranger Maggie Dowd today announced that Rainbow Pool on the Stanislaus National Forest’s Groveland Ranger District is now open. Rainbow Pool, a day use area located on the South Fork of the Tuolumne River, has been closed for much needed renovation. Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, the construction project included seal-coating the paved roads and parking areas, upgrades to railings and walkways, erosion control, and improvements to the vault toilets...

Columbia, CA...Around 7:30am this morning Columbia Elementary School students were walking to the bus stop near Columbia Village Drive/Columbia Nursery Area when they were approached the by a Male in his 50’s or 60’s, with short grey hair, reading glasses on his head, zip up style khaki colored windbreaker, green or blue eyes, full teeth, no facial hair, thin eyebrows. He asked them if they had missed there bus and offered them a ride.

CHP Reporting Fatality on Greeley Hill Ranch

Greeley Hill, CA...CHP is reporting that a deceased person was found on a Ranch in the Greeley Hill area. The reporting party was out hunting on the ranch and discovered the victim. The Sheriff's Office and CHP are investigating now. From the initial reports it is unclear on the details but with CHP involved it may have been vehicle accident related...Update as of 7:26am..CHP is reporting that a tow truck has been ordered for a Quad ATV vehicle...

What is known this time is that a hunter was heading out to hunt this morning on a ranch near Dogtown & Bondurant Mine. He discovered the deceased party...

Vegetation Fire Reported on Orange Blossom Road...Update..Contained at 1.5 Acres

Oakdale, CA...13714 is the address on Orange Blossom Road that Crews from multiple agencies and all aircraft are heading to on a very busy late summer day. If you see the Cavalry on the move that is where they are heading on this incident. More to follow if needed... Update as of 2:09pm...The cause of the fire was determined to be a lawn mower and aircraft are being released now with ground crews on scene for mop up of the 1.5 acre blaze...
