Woman Jailed for Using Stolen Checks & More

Sonora, CA....On 12/10/13 Tuolumne County Deputies were conducting an investigation into fraudulent checks being written at Tractor Supply in East Sonora, and CVS Pharmacy in the Junction Shopping Center. Their investigation led them to an address on Blue Bell East. At the residence they contacted several people including the 25 year old suspect, Darlene McNaul. The Deputies investigation uncovered that numerous checks were stolen from an 88 year old females,residence on Curtis Circle in Sonora. McNaul then forged checks at CVC Pharmacy on two occasions obtaining approximately five hundred dollars in merchandise, and once at Tractor Supply obtaining another approximately five hundred dollars in merchandise...

Dr. Angela Fairchilds Selected President for Columbia College

Columbia, CA.. Dr. Angela Fairchilds has accepted an offer by the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD) Board of Trustees to become the new president of Columbia College effective February 1, 2014. Fairchilds will succeed Interim Columbia College President Dr. Leslie Buckalew. Newly elected YCCD Board Chair Dr. Lynn Martin formally announced Dr. Fairchilds as Columbia College’s next President at the YCCD Board of Trustees meeting. The decision was unanimous. “I am thrilled to be selected as the next President of Columbia College. I appreciate the YCCD Board of Trustees and Chancellor Smith giving me this opportunity,” commented Fairchilds on the announcement....

USFS Announces Seasonal Forest Road and Trail Closures

Sonora, Calif...The Forest Service announced today that most Forest roads and trails will be closed to public travel from December 16, 2013 through April 14, 2014. “It is that time of year when the roads and trails are too wet to travel on without causing damage to the soil and the roads and trails themselves,” said Public Services Program Leader Sue Warren. “Due to recent low snow and rain, some roads may be gated now to provide for safe travel. Contact your local Ranger District office before traveling on the Forest.”

Major Injuries in Hwy 49 Accident South of Stevenot Bridge

Tuttletown, CA...On December 11 at 4:15pm a 55 year old Tuolumne man was driving southbound on Hwy 49 south of the Calaveras County line, at approximately 60 mph. A 55 year old Sonora woman was driving northbound in her 2004 Toyota at 55mph. For an unknown reason, the Tuolumne man allowed his 2003 Toyota to travel over the double yellow lines, across the northbound lane and into the east shoulder...

Tioga & Glacier Point Roads Closed for Winter

Yosemite, CA...The series of storm systems that passed through the Yosemite Area over the last several weeks have resulted in heavy snow accumulation throughout the park. Due to snowy and icy conditions, the Tioga and Glacier Point Roads in Yosemite National Park are closed for the season. These roads close each fall and remain closed throughout the winter months until weather conditions permit reopening in the spring next year...

Sheriff's Office Investigating Parental Abduction. Could Possibly Visit Tuolumne

Minden, NV...Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a parental abduction of two children, missing since November 21, 2013. According to reports, Kathryn Ann Moore (44 years old from Wellington, NV) was scheduled to appear in District Court for the scheduled child exchange of 5 year old Patricia Brite Read and 2 year old William Jesse Moore, to their father Richard Read (Gardnerville, NV), who has joint custody of the children. Kathryn did not appear in court for this exchange. Attempts to contact Kathryn have been unsuccessful and a recent visit to her home has indicated that she has left with the children.

In Calaveras starting on December 18 on Hwy 4, Begin:Horseshoe Drive (Right) End: Tipton House RoadRestriction: One-way traffic control Reason: Crack Seal Operation. In Tuolumne County starting on December 16th on Hwy 49. "Begin: Cemetery Road End: Fifth Avenue Restriction: Right shoulder, Reason: Shoulder Work". "Begin: Solinski Street, End: Ponderosa Drive, Restriction: #1 of 2 lanes, right shoulder, Reason: Utility Work". On Hwy 120 staring on the 16th. "Begin: Jacksonville Road, End: State Route 49, Restriction: Right shoulder, Reason: Utility Work". "Begin: Yosemite Lakes Drive, End: Cherry Valley Road/Sweetwater Road, Restriction: One-way traffic control, Reason: Crack Seal Operation". "Begin: South Fork Tuolumne River, End: Yosemite Lakes Drive. Restriction: One-way traffic control, Reason: Crack Seal Operation". In Amador on Hwy 88 starting on the 16th. Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Moves to Open Burning

San Andreas, CA...On Monday, December 9, 2013, at 8:00 AM, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) moved into open burning. Burning will be permitted 24 hours a day on “Permissive Burn Days” as established by the Air Pollution Control District (APCD) in each county. CAL FIRE burn permits will not be required until May 1, 2014 (or earlier if conditions require). Landowners may be held liable if their fire escapes their control. Remain in attendance of your fire, keep a water supply close to the burning site and do not burn when windy, or when high winds are predicted. In Calaveras County, burning on property five acres or more in size requires a permit from the Calaveras APCD. In Tuolumne County clearing two acres or more of vegetation requires a permit from the Tuolumne APCD....
