La Grange Rodeo Sunday March 29, 2015

La Grange, CA...Want to have a real small town, down home Western experience? The La Grange Rodeo Sunday March 29th is for you. It's a full day, with slack roping and riding events starting 8 AM Sunday morning. Get there around noon to see the Rodeo Queen crowning ceremony. Best be in your seats before 1 PM when the Grand Entry begins at the La Grange Rodeo Arena, overlooking the Tuolumne River canyon, east of town on Hwy 132. You'll see bull riding, bareback and saddle bronc riding, team roping and calf roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, and of course the rodeo clowns. Then there's the goat scramble for kids 8 and under. Catch the goat and you keep it! You'll find plenty of food and refreshments to sample and lots of Cowboy and Cowgirl gear to help you put on the style...

Columbia, CA...The automotive training program at Columbia College has received accreditation by NATEF and The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Stanislaus National Forest Hosts Rim Fire Restoration Events

Sonora, Calif., (March 19, 2015)…The Stanislaus National Forest is seeking public engagement on restoration of the Forest area affected by the Rim Fire of 2013, a fire that burned 257,314 acres of land, by hosting workshops and open houses this spring. While Reforestation NEPA is underway (scoping package available on Forest website), some Restoration projects (meadow restoration, repair of recreation facilities damaged by the fire, etc.) are being planned; funding is actively being sought...

Missing Hiker Found Alive in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite, CA...Missing visitor, Michael “Mic” Dahl, was found alive this morning, at approximately 11:00 a.m., in Yosemite National Park. He was spotted by visitors on the Yosemite Valley Loop Trail. The visitors recognized him from the missing persons flyer. Dahl was found approximately a quarter mile east of the Lower Yosemite Fall trail, in a large boulder field below Sunnyside Bench. Dahl sustained multiple injuries and is being transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance....

Hospice of the Sierra Offering Orientation and Training for Prospective Volunteers

Sonora, CA...Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Hospice of the Sierra is looking for volunteers in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties and is offering orientation and training for those who are interested in becoming a hospice volunteer. The orientation session will occur on April 9, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hospice of the Sierra’s Sonora office located at 20100 Cedar Road North.

New Structure Will Restore Access To Yosemite

Mariposa, CA...Caltrans and its partners began the first phase of a $133 million project to create a unique protective structure to protect the roadway from rockslides and restore State Route 140 between Mariposa and El Portal, and provide a safe, direct route to enter Yosemite National Park. “The new structure will offer a unique, sustainable solution to avoid future closures,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “This is important because SR-140 is a lifeline for local residents and this project will provide a safe and efficient transportation system to enhance Mariposa County’s economy and livability for years to come.”
