The USSA Far West Racing Series Rolled into Dodge Ridge Last Weekend ~By John Hamilton with Links to Over an Hour of Video Enclosed!

Pinecrest, CA...Young Ski Racers from Bear Valley, Dodge Ridge, Badger Pass and Sierra Summit carved their way down Bobby's Freedom Run in the Annual Ryan Lavagnino Classic at Dodge Ridge Ski Resort last weekend. This was the second of 4 races in the Far West Central Series. The first leg was the Bear Valley Slalom with the second being the Ryan Lavagnino Classic Giant Slalom Race. The 3rd and 4th will be a Super G race on a fast course at Sierra Summit and they will finish up with a Slalom Race in Yosemite at Badger Pass. Almost 130 kids flew down the course with runs on Saturday and Sunday. Our local Bear Valley Team did very will with several first place, podium and top 10 finishes. The Bear Valley team continued their dominance of the Men's J4 Class with all Bear Valley Podiums Saturday and Sunday. Bear Valley's Erik Arvidsson turned in another dominating performance with wins both days in the J4 Class and the fastest overall times of the weekend. Tuolumne County, CA....Volunteer Training begins in March for new Volunteers at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. But on February 21st at 10am, park staff is inviting prospective volunteers to come take an inside peek. “We recognize that sometimes people want to know a little more about what they are getting into, and this is a no-strings attached way to learn about our Volunteer operation” says Dave Rainwater, the park’s volunteer coordinator.....

Columbia College’s financial aid department is rounding out its “Cash for College” season with a final evening workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The workshop will be held at Starbucks Coffee in The Junction Shopping Center, located at 13761 Mono Way in East Sonora. Columbia, CA...."It's a Jungle Out There" is a museum quality exhibit displayed in the rotunda of the Manzanita building at Columbia College. The exhibit will be on display until March 13, 2009. Doralyn Folletti, College Program Representative, explained that the project was the work of a number of dedicated people working long hours in order to provide this unique display. Sonora, CA....On February 3, 2009, at about 4:30 P.M a lengthy investigation was concluded by serving a search warrant in the 15000 block of Paseo De Los Robles in the Phoenix Lake Estates Subdivision. The Tuolumne Narcotics Team with assistance from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department Investigations and Operations Division as well as Tuolumne County Child Welfare Services served the Search warrant and contacted subjects, Andrew Phillips, Phillip Bancroft and Bridget Barling at the residence....
