Sierra Repertory Theatre Founders Announce Retirement After 37 Years

Sonora, CA...Dennis and Sara Jones, who founded Sierra Repertory Theatre 37 years ago, met recently with the Board of Trustees to announce their retirement. They will remain at the helm for the next nine months and plan to transition the leadership of SRT to Artistic Director Scott Viets as of August 1, 2017. Viets has been SRT’s Artistic Director for the past 14 years and is familiar to audiences as a director, choreographer and actor, most recently starring in The Drowsy Chaperone. Becky Saunders, a guest performer, stage manager and director with SRT since 1994, joins the staff in April, 2017 and will become Managing Director as of August 1, 2017.

Vegetation Management Prescribed Burn

San Andreas, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will be conducting prescribed burning in Tuolumne County. Crews will be burning in the Hetch Hetchy Vegetation Management Program (VMP). Smoke may be visible in the daytime hours in this area.

Three Hikers Missing Outside Kennedy Meadows - Update...Safe & Sound!

Emigrant Wilderness, CA...(Update...Found Safe & Sound) On Monday evening,10/17/16 just after 6 PM, the Sheriff's Office received a report of three overdue hikers.Steven Morales, Christine Ricks and Venu Aruva were on a backpacking trip in the Emigrant Wilderness and planned to return home on Sunday, 10/16/16. When Steven did not return from the trip his son notified the Sheriff's Office. The three planned to obtain a wilderness permit prior to entering the wilderness so dispatch contacted the US Forest Service. A permit was on file under Christine Ricks and there were three people in her party. The permit was obtained on 10/12/16 with a planned entry date of 10/13/16, and exit date of 10/16/16. The trail head they were leaving from and returning to was Kennedy Meadows and their destination was Sheep Camp. Steven is described as an avid hiker with no significant health problems. He belongs to a hiking club which is internet based. Steven often hikes with both Christine and Venu.

Moving Closures From SR 108 Soulsbyville Road To Kennedy Meadows

Tuolumne County, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform road work on various points of eastbound and westbound State Route 108 (SR-108). Work will occur as follows:
A moving closure on eastbound and westbound SR-108 from Soulsbyville Road to Kennedy Meadows Road for striping operations beginning Monday, October 17, 2016, through Thursday, October 20, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
