Another Vehicle vs Pedestrian Collision in Sonora Area

Sonora, CA...On Friday, November 19th, just after 7 p.m., the Sonora Police Department responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision in the 300 block of Stockton Street. It was determined that a 2004 red Honda SUV, driven by a 47-year-old Sonora woman, was traveling eastbound on Stockton Road and had struck a 38-year-old man also from Sonora. The male was crossing Stockton Road from north to south outside of any marked crosswalk when the collision occurred.

Arnold, CA...The precipitation and the nip in the air is bring snow to the high country. Sonora, Ebbetts & Tioga Passes are closed. Ebbetts is closed at the east end of Lake Alpine, Sonora is closed 26.4 miles of Strawberry or just over a marathon's length from Strawberry. Chain controls from Tamarack on up Hwy 4, 8.7 miles past Strawberry on Hwy 108 and from 6.3 Miles east of Ham's Station on Hwy 88. Drive Safe out there...

Jamestown, CA...It is always a good idea to drive safely and ensure your vehicle equipment is functioning properly. That is especially true if you're car is loaded with illegal drugs. Our partners at Sonora CHP pulled over a vehicle early Wednesday morning on Hwy 108 at Chicken Ranch Road in Jamestown for a lighting equipment violation. The officer soon discovered there was a need to call our Narcotics Team.

Sonora, CA...Adventist Health Sonora, along with partners throughout Tuolumne County, participated in the 2017 California Statewide Medical and Health Exercise (SWMHE) on Thursday, November 16 at Adventist Health Sonora’s main campus. This full scale exercise was based on a hospital campus active shooter scenario helped our community to be better prepared for emergencies and incidents of all types and sizes.

All Fires Contained or Out on Stanislaus National Forest

Sonora, CA...Stanislaus National Forest fire officials announced all lightning strike fires that were burning on the forest are either fully contained or out. The Summit Complex Fire, which included the Douglas, Willow and McCormick fires, were declared out. The Creek Fire was called 100 percent contained and the Bummers Fire was called controlled. “The wet weather over the past week made conditions too wet for these fires to continue,” said Clint Gould, acting deputy fire chief. “Any fire activity on the Creek or Bummers fire is very low intensity and both fires are completely contained.”

Arnold, CA...Winter has arrived along the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada according to the National Weather Service. Today Rain at lower elevations...and rain and snow at higher elevations. Highs 35 to 50 higher elevations...44 to 59 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations...3 to 5 inches higher elevations. Snow level 6500 feet increasing to above 8000 feet in the afternoon. Prevailing southeast winds 10 to 20 mph, gusts up to 55 mph in the afternoon. Over ridges...prevailing southwest winds 15 to 30 mph increasing to 25 to 45 mph in the afternoon with gusts up to 65 mph. Tonight At lower elevations, heavy rain. At higher elevations, heavy rain and heavy snow in the evening, then heavy rain after midnight. Windy. Lows 29 to 43 higher elevations...41 to 47 lower elevations. Snow accumulation 2 to 4 inches. Snow level above 8000 feet. Prevailing south winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to around 60 mph...except southwest 30 to 50 mph with gusts to around 75 mph over ridges.

Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Burn Permit Suspension Lifted

San Andreas, CA...Effective Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 8:00 AM the burn permit suspension in Tuolumne, Calaveras, eastern Stanislaus and eastern San Joaquin counties will be lifted. CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Chief Josh White is formally cancelling the burn permit suspension and advises that those possessing current and valid agriculture and residential burn permits can now resume burning on permissible burn days. Agriculture burns must be inspected by CAL FIRE prior to burning until the end of the peak fire season. Inspections may be required for burns other than agriculture burns. This can be verified by contacting your local Air Quality Management District.
