Yosemite National Park to Waive Entrance Fees for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Weekend

Yosemite National Park, CA....In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Yosemite National Park will offer free admission into the park starting Saturday, January 15 through Monday, January 17, 2010. The fee free waiver is for all visitors in honor of the holiday weekend. Fees being waived for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend include the fees associated with entrance into the park only. All other fees associated with camping, lodging, or activities within the park are not waived. The fee waiver is good for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend only....

22 Year Male Charged with Evading Police, Resisting Arrest, and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

Tuolumne County, CA,....Early this morning around 12:10 am, Deputy Alex Rivera noticed a Ford Ranger at C&C Mini Mart driving in reverse toward the gas pumps. He contacted the driver, Mark Bitzan, 22, of Casper Wyoming and a passenger, Louis Hamiton, 21, also from Wyoming. Dep. Rivera requested a wants and warrants check on both subjects. He noticed that Hamilton appeared unusually nervous. A few minutes later Sheriff’s Dispatch told Dep. Rivera that Bitzan was a sex offender and was possibly out of compliance with his registration restrictions. While waiting for a ......

Tuolumne County Sheriffs Office Makes Two Arrests Last Evening for DUI and Possession of Drugs

Sonora, CA....Last night around 10:30 pm Deputy Mike Pershall noticed a car travelling unusually slowly on Mono Way. He also saw the car had a cracked windshield and decided to initiate a traffic stop. He contacted the driver, Michele Bergeson 37 of Soulsbyville and asked her about her windshield. A name check revealed she was on probation for theft. Dep. Pershall administered a series of field sobriety tests and determined that Bergeson was under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant. He then contacted the passenger, Christopher Brewer 22 of Sonora, and administered the same tests and determined that Brewer was also under the influence. Brewer was also in possession of marijuana.....

Sonora, CA....Multiple crews are responding to a Possible structure fire at Fir Drive and Pine Road. Update 4:12pm: Crews on scene are stating this is a burn pile. Units are being canceled.

Sonora, CA.....The American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) and Traveling Vietnam Wall Memorial will visit Tuolumne County March 24-27, 2011 at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora in honor of Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day (WHVVD) on March 30. The Tribute arrives March 23 escorted by the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 391’s Motorcycle Group including members of the Patriot Guard and will be set-up the morning of March 24.....

Traffic Update...Accident on Merced Falls Road

Don Pedro, CA...An accident occurred about an hour ago on Merced Falls Road and Pepito that we were going to let go by without posting something on it. Originally it appeared minor and non-injury. CHP Jamestown is now reporting that it may have taken a turn for the worse. The victim now appears to have a head injury and is bleeding from the nose and is no longer speaking. Please use caution in this area...

Sonora, CA....This morning around 12:30 am Deputy David Vasquez saw a pick up truck driving on Chicken Ranch Rd, without a license plate. Dep. Vasquez activated his emergency lights to stop the truck at Table Mtn. Rd. but it continued to Chicken Ranch Casino where the driver drove around in the parking lot in the wrong direction, finally stopping backwards in a parking spot. The driver, Rodger Robbins Jr. 46 of Stockton, got out of the car and began walking around despite Dep. Vasquez’ orders to sit back down in the car.
