Muir’s March to Restore Hetch Hetchy Grows

SAN FRANCISCO –February 8, 2012 --The fight led by famed naturalist John Muir about a century ago continues to strengthen with the announcement that the fourth annual "Muir's March" (http://muirsmarch.landingpage.dojiggy.com/) has expanded to include six stunning guided backpacking trips (including a trip just for families) in Yosemite National Park, from July 29 – Aug 4, 2012. The march, which takes backpackers and hikers into scenic areas rarely experienced by tourists, raises awareness and funds for the campaign to bring the Hetch Hetchy Valley back to life. The treks literally and figuratively follow in Muir’s footsteps, and are open to anyone who can raise a minimum of $90....

Jamestown, CA – Ron and Lorie Gianelli, owners of Gianelli Vineyards in Jamestown, were honored with five medals by the prestigious 2012 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition - three golds and two bronzes. “We were hoping and praying for one gold and were ecstatic when we found out that we had won five medals from the six wines we entered,” exclaimed Lorie. “We were so excited I think everyone in Jamestown could hear us screaming!”...

This site will be the portal for the estimated 20,000 plus that will swell the population of Sonora for the start of the 4th stage of this years Amgen Tour. Soulsbyville Man Passes Away in Accident

Sonora, CA...One December 30, 2011, at approximately 4:18pm, Harold Goodwin Jr. was driving his 1995 Subaru Legacy southbound on Tuolumne Road North, south of Maranatha Road at an unknown rate of speed. For unknown reasons, Goodwin allowed his vehicle to travel off of the west roadway edge and down an embankment. Subsequently the vehicles right front end collided with a concrete retaining wall...

Sonora, CA...Linda Nielsen of Sonora, has been invited back for another pre-release sale and book signing of her new novel "Lasso the Stars" from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 22 at T. J. Maxx located at 13773 Mono Ave. in the Junction Shopping Center in Sonora. "Lasso the Stars" is not only a Christmas feel-good story and belongs on everybody's holiday gift list...but it's a book to be gifted and read all year long. 20% of sales will be donated to Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency (ATCAA).

Tuolumne - Calaveras Wind Fires Update...Over 700 Acres Burned in Wind Related Fires

San Andreas, CA...At peak well over 200 fire personal were fighting the wind driven fires in the TCU area. There was the Ferndale fire on Priest Grade that was 3 acres. The Mountain Fire near Bald Mountain with was 9 acres and the Ridgewood fire at 2-3 acres all in Tuolumne County. Calaveras County had the fires that consumed the most acreage with the Blue fire at 722 acres and is still not fully controlled and the East fire at 44 acres. At peak over 200 personal, 22 engines and additional aircraft as well...
