Fine contemporary dining at Columbia College restaurant

Columbia, CA....This fall, the public is invited to dine on contemporary cuisine on Tuesday evenings at the Cellar Bistro at Columbia College, located on the first level of the Manzanita Building. Starting on Sept. 15, the restaurant will be open in the evenings for patrons from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Presented by the college’s advanced contemporary cuisine class, students will plan and prepare special culinary fare at the college. Tioga Road Closure in Effect Through Holiday Weekend

For the safety of travelers and firefighters, the Tioga Road closure now in place from Big Oak Flat Road to White Wolf will remain in place through Labor Day weekend and until further notice. Firefighters are currently using the Tioga Road as a fireline in this area and will continue using all available resources to keep the fire south of the road. Hazards that necessitated this road closure include fire vehicle traffic, hazardous dead and burning trees along the roadside, and limited visibility due to smoke on the road.....

Big Meadow Fire Update as of 10:30am This Morning ....5,933 Acres, Still Remains at 55% Contained

Yosemite, CA...Today firefighters will continue to work on containing the fire at Tamarack Flat Campground Road and Tioga Road using all available resources. When conditions are favorable firefighters will conduct burnout operations along Big Oak Flat and Tioga Roads. Firefighters continue to reinforce lines around Foresta and El Portal. No major fire activity is reported in these areas......
A fire update meeting is scheduled for 6:30pm tonight (September 3rd) at Tenaya Elementary School, 19177 Hwy 120 in Groveland.

The Big Oak Flat Road is closed to through traffic at the Big Oak Flat Entrance Station to the junction of the El Portal Road. In addition, the Tioga Road is closed to through traffic from White Wolf to the Crane Flat Gas Station. All road closures will remain in effect through Labor Day Weekend. Hodgdon Meadow Campground remains accessible to visitors. Visitors on the east side of the park can still access Tuolumne Meadows, Olmsted Point, and White Wolf.

If you are attending the Strawberry Festival at Camp Mather this weekend please use the Evergreen Road. The Cherry Oil Road is closed through Monday due to traffic accessing fire camp at Drew Meadow.

El Portal, CA...We just spoke with Robert Newsom at the fire information center and got a morning update. Crews made good progress on the fire overnight. It is now 2,600 acres and 30% contained. Higher humidity helped as well. As you can see from the accompanying Turtleback Webcam image smoke output has diminished significantly. Tuolumne County, CA....There will be Lane Closure today, August 28th, from 9am until 2:30pm at Phoenix Lake Road just east of Paseo De Los Portales in Tuolumne County. It will be closed permanently on August 31st at 9am. Bridge is being replaced. Lane will be closed until new bridge is up and running.

For the 5th year in a row, Tuolumne County was awarded a gold ribbon at the California State Fair in Sacramento. The judges’ decision was announced at the annual Awards Ceremony for the County Exhibits at Cal Expo. Seatbelts Save Mother and Unborn Child

Sonora, CA...An accident behind Longs Drugs on Tuolumne Road this morning could have had tragic consequences if not for proper seat belt use. Following is the CHP Release from Officer Scott... "Taren Thomas was driving her 2001 Subaru Forester northbound on Tuolumne Road south of Terrace Road in Tuolumne County. Ms. Thomas allowed her vehicle to drift off the east edge of the roadway and unto the uneven shoulder. M. Thomas over-corrected and lost control of her vehicle. The Subaru collided with a guard rail prior to traveling down an embankment where it overturned and was impaled through the roof by a concrete pole....

1/4 Acre of Grass Burn Due to Sparks From a Grinder Being Used

Tulumne County, CA....A 1/4 acre of grass vegetation was burned when sparks from a Grinder being used on the bed of a pickup truck was being used. The pickup was parked about 28 feet away from vegetation. The incident occurred on Saturday August 22nd at 20604 N. Sunshine Road in Soulsbyville. There were no injuries. Units responding were:
