Traffic Update...Vehicle Hanging over Cliff on Merced Falls Road

Coulterville, CA..CHP is reporting a vehicle is hanging over a cliff on Merced Falls Road and Coronado Drive. The reporting party said the vehicle is occupied. Update as of 7:29am...Good news...accident is property damage only according to CDF units now on scene.... Please use caution in the area...

Sonora, CA....Once again the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce is seeking the public's nominations for the "Best of Tuolumne County Awards." The Chamber has presented these awards since 1921 at the Annual Installation/Honors Banquet, which will be held Thursday, November 18, 2011 at the Elk's Lodge. Nominations can be made in each or all of four categories: Entrepreneur of the Year, Excellence in Government, Citizen of the Year, and Teacher of the Year. Individuals, service and business organizations,and businesses can make nominations. Talking Tuolumne County and Mother Lode Economic Development with Larry Cope

Sonora, CA...We had the pleasure to sit down for an interview with Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority's Larry Cope. Mr. Cope has been instrumental and some would say indispensable in replacing the lost retail jobs in wake of the Mervyns and Gottschalk's closures. Those body blows to the areas confidence and job pools have been healed with the opening of the local Kohl's and the healing of the Mervyn's closing with the imminent opening of Joanne's Fabrics, Big Lots and Petsmart. While these are the most visible results of the TCEDA's work they are by no means the whole story or primary focus of the TCEDA. Their mission is to add jobs and high paying jobs where possible...

Sonora, CA...The retail renaissance of Sonora will finally be complete in the months ahead. Construction is moving at a quick pace to fill the former Mervyns location with BigLots, Jo Ann’s Fabrics and PetSmart. All three plan to be open before the end of the year. With Kohls doing well in the old Gottschalks location the Sonora retail scene is looking quite healthy. It's been a bumpy couple of years but 2012 looks to be a great year...

39 Year Old Albany Man Drowns at Pinecrest Lake

Pinecrest, CA...Monday at around 9:24 am, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call regarding a possible drowning at Pinecrest Lake. Emergency Medical and Sheriff’s personnel responded and located 39 year old Peng Yue of Albany CA. Yue had been fishing with his three children and an adult friend when he decided to swim in the lake. He was last seen by his friend 100 to 200 yards away from a rock island where their boat was beached but did not appear to be in any distress....

Missing Washington Man Found Deceased In Yosemite

Yosemite, CA...Yosemite National Park's search for 69 year old Gene R. Hall concluded at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 3, when Hall was found dead in his tent. The cause of death has not yet been determined, but appears to be from natural causes. Searchers located the tent off-trail near Fletcher Lake, which is in the vicinity of Vogelsang. Hall had been hiking alone in the Vogelsang area and had been missing since Thursday, September 1, when he failed to show up for a previously scheduled engagement...

Twain Harte Film Festival Coming September 9th

Twain Harte, CA...The Twain Harte Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Film Festival to take place in Twain Harte the weekend of September 9, 2011. The festivities will begin with a gala kick off dinner on Friday, September 9, with a world premiere following the dinner and primarily family-friendly movies late on Friday and all day into the night on Saturday. All theatre venues are in Twain Harte. There will also be a VIP Reception Saturday evening. Judging results will be revealed on Sunday, September 11.
