Railtown 1897 Steam Train Operating Season Opens April 3-4 Calaveras and Tuolumne County Residents Ride FREE All Weekend!

Jamestown, CA....On Saturday and Sunday, April 3-4, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown will begin the first weekend of steam train operations for 2010. Once underway, steam-powered excursion trains will depart on-the-hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends through October. And, during opening weekend only, residents of Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties ride for free with proof of residency. Visitors from near and far are encouraged to step aboard for a six-mile, 40-minute roundtrip ride along the rails of the famous “Movie Railroad,” passing through California’s scenic Gold Country. ....

Sonora, CA...CHP is reporting that that at 7:19am an accident was reported where a solo vehicle is off the roadway with the an occupant pinned in and audibly indicating injuries. Crews are inbound now. Please use caution in that area until they get the accident removed...(Update as of 7:53am. Crews are on scene now and there is ONE WAY TRAFFIC CONTROL due to westbound lane being blocked. Update 8:48am, one party is possibly being transported to a Modesto Hospital. Update....Roadway clear.

Bear Valley Mountain, in partnership with Dodge Ridge Wintersports Area, announced today that both resorts will honor all veterans and active military personnel on March 30th, “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day” with a free ski day. All military personnel with proper ID will receive a free all-day lift ticket. “We are proud to partner with Dodge Ridge to offer this program to recognize our veterans and all those who serve in the U.S. military. We are pleased that the State of California has taken a step to officially welcome our Vietnam Veterans ‘Home’ with this holiday and this free day is just a small token of our appreciation and gratitude for the years of dedication and service to our country,” said Jon Mahanna, Mountain Operations Manager for Bear Valley Mountain and Vietnam Veteran, Chapter 391.

Columbia College and the Academic Wellness Educators committee are delighted to present two workshops and a short performance by Christina Perez, Latina Slam/Performance Poet. Ms. Perez will lead two workshops to introduce Slam/Performance poetry and how it can be incorporated into teaching—both workshops will be held at Columbia College, one on April 13th from 4:00-7:00pm in Fir 3 and the second on April 14th from 8:00-11:00am in the Tamarack ITC.
