Sonora, CA...Sierra Repertory Theatre presents the Second Annual Wine Down Fridays for the perfect combination of fine wine and live theatre. Eight Calaveras County wineries will host a small tasting of their wines—a white and a red--every Friday night at 6 PM during the run of The Marvelous Wonderettes, June 25-August 15 at the East Sonora Theatre. “We’re always looking for new ways to enhance our patrons’ experience while they’re at the theatre,” says Company Manager and Wine Down Fridays coordinator Lisette Sweetland. “Offering a pre-show wine tasting was a natural combination.”...

Sonora, CA.....Coming off their first win at Merced, the Hellcats were raging with derby energy and ready to play. The Hellcats took the lead vs. the Sn Cal Derby Vixens with the first jam and never looked back. In fact they put up such a big number that the score board couldn't handle all the digits. The Hellcats had a near sell out crowd on Saturday evening. The next bout will be August 14th against SinTral Valley. The doors open at 5:30 and the bout starts at 7:00 at High Country Sports Arena 18960 Waylon Way Sonora.....

TRAFFIC HAZARD....Big Rig Over Side of Roadway at Hwy 108 and Kennedy Meadows....Sonora Pass to Be Closed on Thursday to Recover Vehicle

Kennedy Meadows, CA....CHP is reporting an unoccupied big rig is over the side of roadway at Hwy 108 and Kennedy Meadows. They are stating Sonora Pass will be closed on Thursday for 8 hours to recover the truck.

Minor Injury School Bus Accident in Sonora This Afternoon

Sonora, CA....A Sonora man suffered minor injuries after his car rear-ended a school bus today in Sonora. CHP reports the driver of the car was driving his vehicle well in excess of 30mph and was unable to adjust his speed safely for the slower moving school bus. He then rear ended it. His vehicle received major damage. Thank goodness there were no injuries to anyone in the bus. The driver of the vehicle was transported to Sonora Regional. Full CHP release enclosed....

REMINDER....FULL CLOSURE State Route 108/Sonora Pass in Tuolumne County on Thursday, June 17, 2010

Tuolumne County, CA....The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close State Route 108/Sonora Pass from Kennedy Meadows to just west of the north fork of Leavitt Creek in Mono County to remove debris from an accident that occurred earlier in the week. Work will occur on Thursday, June 17, 2010, from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.....

Tuttletown, CA...Bright and early on Saturday morning the Bureau of Reclamation staff and over 75 volunteers organized the 18th annual C.A.S.T. (Catch a Special Thrill) for Kids Fishing Fun Fair at New Melones Lake. The fair was co-sponsored by the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, a national non-profit organization whose goal is “to provide disabled and disadvantaged children ages 5-16 the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing.”...

Half Dome Cables Up For The Season on Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Yosemite National Park, CA...The cables allowing access for hikers to the summit of Half Dome will be in place and open for the season on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. The trail to Half Dome from Yosemite Valley is an extremely strenuous hike covering over 17 miles. Hikers gain 4,800 feet of elevation along the trail that passes highlights such as Vernal Fall and Nevada Fall, before reaching the cables on Half Dome’s steep granite shoulder. Metal cables and wooden planks are placed along the steep shoulder of the dome to assist hikers to the summit....

Hwy 108 Accident Turns Fatal for Sonora Woman

Sonora, CA...An Accident yesterday afternoon on Hwy 108 & Via Este has turned fatal. 92 year old Audrey Vest passed away early this morning from her injuries suffered in yesterday's crash that also sent two other local residents via air ambulance to Doctor's Hospital. The CHP release is enclosed...

Yosemite National Park, CA....A new exhibit entitled “View & Visitors: The Yosemite Experience in the 19th Century,” will open to the public on June 16, 2010. The exhibit, in the Yosemite Valley Museum features paintings, prints, artifacts and ephemera from Yosemite’s early years. An exhibit opening reception will be held on June 15 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. located in the Yosemite Valley Museum. There is no cost to attend and food and drink will be served at the reception....
