Late Winter Storm System Rolls Through. Should be clear for the Weekend. ~By John Hamilton

Angels Camp, CA...A late winter storm system is rolling through the area. Observers in Bear Valley have seen over 3" of fresh snow with more falling right now. It is too late to extend the ski season but it should help Bear Valley Snowmobile as their is still plenty of snow on the ground for snowmobile rentals. They are still renting snowmobiles in Bear Valley and at Spicer. This should also help late winter snow play and put a fresh coat of whitewash on the snow. In Angels Camp it should clear out tonight and remain clear with a projected high of 67 degrees for the Big Relay For Life event at Bret Harte. We have included...

Valley Springs Resident, Mary "Nana" Truss, Passed Away

Valley Springs, CA...Mary "Nana" Truss, a resident of Valley Springs, passed away on April 20th, 2009 of Natural Causes at Sunrise Country Care Center. She was 95. " 'Nana', Mary Truss made her celestial departure on Monday, April 20th, 2009. She was born Mary Fiori in 1913 in New York and at the age of 9 moved to California with her father and five sisters. She spent most of her adult life in the Bay Area. She retired after 20 years as an Elevator Operator at the Sutter Medical Building in San Francisco. She then relocated to Livermore to be closer to her daughter and family and became a school crossing guard for another 20 years. All those who were lucky enough to have shared her life lovingly called her "Nana." Nana was easily recognized by her white Ford pick up with the ribbons on the antenna.....

Trinitas Matriarch, Patricia Anne Hansen Nemee, has Passed Away After A Long Fight Against Breast Cancer

Valley Springs, CA...Patricia Anne Hansen Nemee was born in Stockton on May 12, 1943. She passed away on April 19, 2009. Pat graduated from Stagg High School in 1961 and was Miss Stockton 1964. She graduated from the University of the Pacific with her undergraduate degree in Home Economics and later her Masters in Education. Pat and her husband, Steve, moved to Valley Springs in 2002. She dedicated her entire adult life to public school education. Pat taught for almost 40 years at both her alma mater, Stagg High School, and later at Franklin High School. During her tenure she taught home economics and English. Pat was the work experience coordinator, academic decathlon advisor, AVID program director, and a cheerleading and badminton coach....

Three in Custody Following Attack on Deputy

Valley Springs, CA...Three Valley Springs men are custody after attacking a Calaveras County Deputy Sheriff at a residence located in Valley Springs. Deputy Michael Dittman (2 year veteran) responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence located on the 100 block of Daphne St. Upon Deputy Dittman’s arrival he observed 3 male subjects fighting on the front porch. Deputy Dittman announced his presence and ordered the subjects to quit fighting. The subjects ignored Deputy Dittman’s commands and in response Deputy Dittman pointed his taser at the subjects and again ordered them to stop...

San Andreas, CA...This mornings Trinitas Centric Board of Supervisors meeting is underway. There is another large crowd waiting to weigh in on the project. The Trinitas project has not come up on the agenda yet. This meeting will most likely take several hours at least. Because of it's location we cannot push the meeting live. We will post updates during the meeting anytime there is anything of import to pass along. As of 9:45am the board has yet to take up the project....

Longtime Valley Springs Resident, Salvatore Samuel Amodeo Passed Away on April 8th , 2009

Valley Spring, CA.....29 year Valley Springs resident, Salvatore Samuel Amodeo, passed away on April 8th, 2009. He was 80 years old. He passed at Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital of Natural Causes. A native it Italy, Mr. Amodeo moved to Pittsburg, PA. in 1934, Lodi, CA. in 1944 and Stockton, CA. in 1952, then settled in Valley Springs in 1980. He worked for San Joaqin Paper Products for 30 years and was a past member of the Lyons Club and the Jesters Club. He also was a Little League coach for many years....

Valley Springs, CA...If you are a member of the Board of Supervisors or a member of the press in Calaveras County your inbox has been stuffed the last couple of days with email after email with the subject line of "VOTE YES ON TRINITAS". Over the next few days one get's the feeling that Members of the Calaveras Board of Supervisors will have a full time job digesting the steady stream of community members large and small extolling their support for the project. There are emails from supporters within and without of the county. The emails have poured in from the Bay Area, Sacramento Area, close to home and we even saw one from North Dakota. This is all a prelude to Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting where the fate of the project should be decided. We have enclosed a few to give you a flavor of the Board's reading material this weekend....

James Edward Paz, Longtime Valley Springs Resident, Has Passed Away

James Edward Paz, Age 42, passed away on April 4, 2009 at San Joaquin General Hospital. James was an Oiler in French Camp. He was a resident of Lockford for 35 years. A native of San Rafael, CA. James grew up in Lodi. He moved to San Andreas in 2000 and settled in Valley Springs in 2007 and had lived in Lockford for a few months. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Paz of Valley Springs; Parents, Al and Jean Paz of Livermore; Children, Megan Paz of Macon, ID, Samantha Paz of Granada, MS, James Paz, Jr. of Manteca; Step Children, Savannah Duncan of Valley Springs, Amanda Pratt of Valley Springs, Summer Pratt of Valley Springs, Amber Pratt of Valley Springs; A Brother Dennis Paz of Stockton. He was preceded in death by his Sister, Nina McInnes; He had one Grandson, David Paz of Macon, ID.....

Valley Springs Man Suffers Minor Injuries in Solo Vehicle Rollover This Morning

A Valley Springs male, age 37, suffered minor injuries this morning in a solo vehicle rollover accident that occurred at Hwy 26 and Burson Road. He was the passenger. A Valley Springs female, age 36, suffered no injuries. Due to the high rate speed for the road conditions, the driver lost control of her vehicle, then spun out of control then overturned.
