Calaveras, CA...My daughter recently entered a contest at her school called "Dinner With a Scientist". It's an annual event the district puts on for the 6th graders. To enter, she had to come up with a new invention. Her invention was a robot designed to help the elderly in their daily lives. Or as she put it, "A robot for old people"...don't worry, I helped her put a more PC title on her invention. She won a spot at the event and had a great time learning and meeting many different scientific professionals...

Valley Springs, CA..On September 11, 2013 at 4:45 pm, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Veteran’s Field playground in Valley Springs behind Valley Springs Elementary School for a report of an attempted kidnapping of a 14 year old girl. The girl reported that she was sitting alone at the playground when a male adult approached her and offered her marijuana. When she declined he walked towards her. She turned around and started walking away from him towards the school. As she was walking away she heard what sounded like someone jogging up behind her. She turned, at which time the male brushed up against her. She fled the area towards the school where she called a friend for help. The suspect male returned to his vehicle and left the area. She did not know the identity of the male...

Valley Springs, CA...On 9-11-13 at about 1645 hours a female juvenile teenager reported that an unknown male subject attempted to get her to go with him in his vehicle and offered her marijuana while at the Veterans Field playground in Valley Springs. When she refused, he came close to her, coming close enough that she pulled away and then fled the area. He then left in a vehicle yelling at her as he left....

San Andreas, CA...Dear Generous Donor, "Amped Up" is a fundraising project geared toward acquiring a new sound system for our sports stadium complex at Calaveras High School in San Andreas. This antiquated system is in dire need of a makeover. The stadium is used for sports and special events such as Soccer, Football, Track and Field, Relay for Life, Every 15 Minutes, and Senior Graduation. It is important for everyone to be able to clearly hear the music, announcers, and special event speakers, however with our current system, it is almost impossible to understand anything being said or played over the system....

San Andreas, CA...This year for MTMC’s Annual Pink in The Night Event they will be handing out 60 watt bulbs to breast cancer survivors and those that are currently battling the disease. All five Family Medical Centers, their Cancer Center, and Diagnostic Imaging department will have lights on hand for distribution. The bulbs are funded by The Mark Twain Health Care District and make great porch lights during the month of October for breast cancer awareness. These will be given out to Calaveras County breast cancer survivors and current fighters...
