Board of Supervisors to Meet Tuesday Morning at 9am

San Andreas, CA....The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors will be meeting Tuesday morning at 9am for their weekly meeting. There will be discussion and possible action regarding a Minute Order authorizing Board Chair to sign a letter addressed to the US Fish & Wildlife Service seeking exclusion from the critical habitat designation; Juvenile Detention Needs Assessment and give direction to the CAO, County Counsel and the Chief Probation Officer regarding the Local Youthful Offender Rehabilitative Facility Construction Funding Program and partnership with Tuolumne County; Discussion regarding direction to staff regarding including an Economic Development Element into the General Plan Update; A Minute Order to appoint a member of the BOS to serve as a Director on the California State Association of Counties, CSAC, Board along with an alternate appointee for the 09 association; A study Session in the afternoon will take place regarding Mental Health Services Act, MHSA, Workforce Education &Training Proposed Plan for Calaveras County. The Agenda is enclosed.

Valley Springs Man Loses Life in Milton Road Accident

Jenny Lind, CA...Just after 1am this morning crews responded to an accident at Milton Rd. near Mann St. where a 49 year old Valley Springs man lost his life. He was traveling South on Milton and was unable to maintain control during a curve to the left. He left the road traveled up and embankment, struck a tree and he Ford van subsequently rolled as well. His name will be released pending notifications. The CHP release is enclosed. As of 8:27pm this evening, we have not received the gentleman's name....

Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Video and Summary for October 28, 2008

San Andreas, CA...The second big item, besides the Murphys Hotel sign on the Board of Supervisors agenda on Tuesday, was the County's Official response to the Grand Jury Report. It was in many ways anticlimactic and expected. At the center of the report was the county's roll in the Community Development Agency mess of the last couple of years. That the County's official position would be to disagree with the Grand Jury Report was a foregone conclusion. It would be safe to say that the relative peace and quiet of the last few months from a controversy aspect has been a welcome development for everyone even if real development continues to languish. It has been very clear from the moment the Report was released and also from the exit agreement for Former CDA Director Stephanie Moreno that at least publicly the county would attack the validity of the Grand Jury findings...

Valley Springs, CA....We received this Press Release from the Calaveras County Sheriffs Department. "On Tuesday, October 21st, Albert Engel Jr., 39, turned himself in to the Calaveras County Jail in response to a warrant issued by the Calaveras County District Attorney's Office. The warrant charges Engel with lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, continuous sexual abuse of a child and lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and the suspect is more than 10 years older......

Valley Springs, CA...Keep It Rural, Calaveras spokesman Lew Mayhew responded with skepticism to the Trinitas press release regarding receipt of a permit from the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) to install two fish screens to prevent grass-eating carp from entering the surrounding waterways.....

We spoke with CAO Bob Lawton yesterday after the Board Meeting and he said the document should contain any fireworks especially in light of the staffing changes since the Grand Jury Report was made public....

Copperopolis, CA...Several new businesses have been opened and are getting ready to open or opening soon in Copperopolis Town Square. Once a Tree has opened their doors with beautiful handcrafted wood products. Right next door they will soon be moving in fixtures & inventory into the new Firefall Jewelry store. This will make three Calaveras County stores for Firefall. They currently have stores in Angels Camp and Valley Springs. Once the Copperopolis store has opened they will have coverage of the entire Calaveras County market. The Square is absolutely gorgeous this fall...

In the picture above Firefall Jewelry's Paul Coca Sr. and Paul Coca Jr. are working out last minute details with Copperopolis Town Square's Linda Stefanick.
