San Andreas, CA...After a series of meetings with Ford Construction, the Calaveras County Water District has withdrawn its appeal of a proposed asphalt batch plant along the Calaveras River at Ford’s gravel quarry in Rancho Calaveras. The withdrawal comes after a written agreement between the construction company and CCWD was signed on Tuesday, June 23, which satisfies the concerns CCWD had over potential impacts the plant would have on water quality.

San Andreas, CA....Caleb Young, Andrew Busser and John Rowitz, students at Mountain Oaks Charter School were recognized at the 49th Annual California Student Media Festival on Saturday, June 6th. The Festival, held in Hollywood, is the nation’s oldest student media festival and focuses on celebrating videos projects being produced by students throughout California.

Valley Springs, CA...Ford Construction Company the operators of the New Hogan Rock Quarry for the past 20+ years has requested that the Calaveras Planning Department review the possibility of placing a Hot Asphalt Mixing Plant at their existing quarry location. Peter Maurer, Calaveras County’s Planing Director reviewed the request and determined that the existing M2 zoning at the quarry property allows for the installation of a asphalt plant without the need for a EIR or Conditional use Permit.

Valley Springs, CA...On 06/14/15 at 0400 hours, Deputies were dispatched to 11700 Wade Lane, at Lake Camanche campgrounds, for a report of a man shooting a gun into the air. Deputies arrived on scene and contacted several campers who described the shooter as a large, bald man, wearing a white t-shirt. Campers advised that the suspect had been talking about gangs, making “pop sounds”, and later followed with a real gunshot. Deputies contacted (S) Angelo Esquer nearby and placed him under arrest. A search of Angelo Esquer’s person was conducted, yielding methamphetamine and a switchblade knife. Deputies also located a small semi-auto handgun located in the nearby area....
