San Andreas, CA...Calaveras High School was faced with AB30 this year which mandated the removal of our Redskin Mascot, which has been in place since the mid 1940’s. The dignity and pride that we have maintained in the use of our logo will not change. Our Mascot Selection Committee was comprised of Calaveras High School alumni, Calaveras High School staff, community members and most importantly Calaveras High school students representing each grade level. The committee chaired by Mike Koepp, CHS Athletic Director, asked for input from all sources that wished to submit their thoughts to suggest a new mascot for our school. All that data was gathered through an on-line survey as well as hand-submitted forms to our office.

Angels Camp, CA...On May 18, 2016, at approximately 0945 hours, a Valley Springs man was driving his Chevrolet southbound on SR-49 north of Fourth Crossing Road at approximately 40 MPH. A Rail Road Flat woman was driving her Chevrolet, and a Valley Springs man was driving his Ford in the same direction, directly in front of the first vehicle. They stopped their vehicles just north of Fourth Crossing in order to allow a vehicle to turn left from SR-49 onto Fourth Crossing Road. He attempted to stop his vehicle, but was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. The front of vehicle one collided with the rear of vehicle two. The force of that collision caused the front of vehicle two to collide with the rear of vehicle three. After the collision, all vehicles were removed from the roadway. The Rail Road Flat woman was transported from the scene by ambulance to Mark Twain Medical Center. She was subsequently flown by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center Modesto for treatment of minor injuries.

Valley Springs, CA...For a year and a half, the Commission has been doing its job to produce the elements of the General Plan to pass along to the board. Collectively, we have put in countless hours editing the General Plan in a way that we believe preserves the culture of the County while striving to improve it as a desirable place to live and raise a family. For my part, I know that I did this work for far less than minimum wage. I did it because I wanted to make a contribution to the County.
