Sacramento, CA...Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) issued the following statement upon learning of the solemn news of Senator Tom Berryhill's passing: "Our community has lost a giant. Tom Berryhill led a dedicated life of service to his community both in the California Legislature and the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors," said Senator Borgeas. "Tom was my mentor and imparted the importance of respect, civility and collegiality in California politics. My wife Anna and I would like to express our deepest condolences to the Berryhill family as they endure this difficult time."

Burbank, CA...Actor Chadwick Boseman, star of Marvel Studios’ groundbreaking film Black Panther, has passed away at the age of 43. “We are all heartbroken by the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman—an extraordinary talent, and one of the most gentle and giving souls I have ever met,” said Robert A. Iger, Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board, The Walt Disney Company. “He brought enormous strength, dignity and depth to his groundbreaking role of Black Panther; shattering myths and stereotypes, becoming a long-awaited hero to millions around the world, and inspiring us all to dream bigger and demand more than the status quo. We mourn all that he was, as well as everything he was destined to become. For his friends and millions of fans, his absence from the screen is only eclipsed by his absence from our lives. All of us at Disney send our prayers and heartfelt condolences to his family.”

Frederick Eugene Evans 1935 - 2020 |

Valley Springs, CA...Frederick Eugene Evans age 84 past away on July 20 2020 at Mark Twain Saint Joseph Hospital of natural causes . He was born May 24 1936 in a tar paper shack at his grand parents farm on the Moseley Prairie in Oklahoma out side of Siloam Springs AR. to Leslie B. Evans & Mildred C. Evans as there first child. Frederick spent his early life going to school, working the family farm and doing odd jobs every thing from bucking hay to picking cherries. He said he was good at bucking hay but very bad at picking cherries. During droughts his father would pack up the family and move to were ever there was work, which eventually led him to Ceres Ca. where he graduated high school in 1953.

Arnold, CA...Donald McNeal passed away on July 31, 2020, after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his brother-in-law John Coppolo (Judy, deceased), and nieces, Catherine Rossetto (Chris) and Jennifer Stetson (Dave). He is also survived by his ex-wife and good friend, Patricia Roma, and her nieces, Ursula Roma and Axie Roma, nephews, Chip Roma and Gian Roma, and grandnephew, Paolo Roma.

Angels Camp, CA...Darren Vernon Jones of Angels Camp passed away on 08/06/2020. He was born in Oakdale, CA to Mary Louise Smith Jones and Lester Vernon Jones. Darren is survived by his wife Brenda, his son Tim Jones, his mother Mary Louise Jones Ardito, all of Angels Camp; his son Travis Rankin of Georgia, and his brother Brian Jones (Terrie) of Carson City, NV.

Pilot Killed in Helicopter Crash Fighting the Hills Fire |

Coalinga, CA...This morning a Call When Needed (CWN) helicopter crashed while fighting a wildfire in western Fresno County. The Bell UH-1H helicopter was on a water dropping mission on the Hills Fire, approximately 9 miles south of the City of Coalinga. Air and ground resources responded immediately to the crash site. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office SAR team was requested to the area of S. Lost Hills Road and Sutter Ave. in Coalinga. The pilot was the only person aboard the helicopter and did not survive the incident.

Murphys, CA...The Calaveras wine industry has lost a great mentor, innovator, vineyard manager and friend. Stephen Collum, 64, the founder of Murphys-based Vineyard Concepts consulting and management company, passed suddenly on August 11th at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton. Members of the Calaveras Wine Industry Remember Steve as a dear friend, mentor, innovator, educator and community builder.

The Community Turned out for Matt Romero's Celebration of Life Procession |

Douglas Flat, CA...This morning friends, family, coworkers, law enforcement & fire fighters took park in a Celebration of Life Procession that started in Angels Camp and wound its way through many of Matt's favorite places and finished up traveling through Murphys. They were not going to let COVID prevent them from giving their friend a proper send off. Below is some video and photos from today and we included his obituary for those of you who may not have known Matt to get to know him a bit better...Matthew Raymond Romero passed away peacefully on July 27,2020 in his childhood home in Douglas Flat. Matt is preceded in death by his parents, Raul and Miriam Romero. He was born on May 20, 1969, a lifelong resident of Calaveras County, and a graduate of Bret Harte High School.

Matt was an employee of Sam Berry Towing and we all have had many interactions with him. RIP Friend from all of us at Angels Camp and Altaville Melones Fire Departments."

All Eight Service Members Presumed Deceased in Training Accident after Search Concludes |

Camp Pendleton, CA...After an extensive 40-hour search, the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, I Marine Expeditionary Force, and the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group concluded their search and rescue operation for seven missing Marines and one Sailor, today. All eight service members are presumed deceased The 15th MEU and the ARG leadership determined that there was little probability of a successful rescue given the circumstances of the incident.
A U.S. Navy MH-60 Seahawk pilot returns to the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD-8) during ongoing search and rescue operations following an AAV-P7/A1 assault amphibious vehicle mishap off the coast of Southern California, July 30, 2020. Assisting in the search and rescue operations are the guided-missile destroyer USS John Finn (DDG 113), multiple U.S. Navy MH-60 helicopters and small boats from USS Makin Island, the amphibious transport dock USS Somerset (LPD 25), the amphibious transport dock USS San Diego (LPD 22), as well as the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Forrest Rednour and a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Sector San Diego.
