Vallecito, CA...Wayne Stuart Segale, age 74 of Vallecito, passed away on July 22, 2020. He was born July 11, 1946 in Stockton Ca. and was a lifelong resident of Calaveras County. He was the youngest child of Lewis and Laverne Segale and if you ask his sister, he acted like it! Wayne attended Bret Harte High School and was in the 1965 graduating class. He joined the Operating Engineers Local Union #3 at an early age and received his 50-year pin recently, he was proud of that.

Calaveritas, CA...Marion Leroy Ruthrauff passed peacefully July 3, 2020, surrounded by his loving family in the home he built. Marion was born to Eunita Summer Rives and Otto Martin Ruthrauff in South Haven, Kansas. Marion was the oldest of three farm boys, all of whom fought in World War II. Marion served as a military police officer in the 12th armored division in the US Army from March 1944-July 1946.
First COVID-19 Death Recorded in Calaveras County is Male over 65

San Andreas, CA...On Monday, July 20, 2020, Calaveras Public Health confirmed the first death of a Calaveras County resident from complications related to COVID-19 illness. The individual was a male over the age of 65 who resided in District 4. The individual tested positive for the virus. He was unable to recover and passed away in hospice at home. The individual had underlying health conditions. HIPAA privacy rules regulate the sharing of protected health information. No additional information is available about the individual.

At age 3 Randy received a diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which he and his family faced with courage and determination to live life to the fullest.

Stroke Takes Life of Country Music Hall of Fame Member Charlie Daniels at 83

Nashville, Tenn. (July 6, 2020) — Country music and southern rock legend Charlie Daniels has passed. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry member died this morning at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee. Doctors determined the cause of death was a hemorrhagic stroke. He was 83. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
San Andreas, CA...Gerald Leroy Giuffra II (Jerry) unexpectedly passed away on June 23 at 58. He was a life long resident of Calaveras. He is survived by his adoring sister Debbie Sellick, the love of his life Kathy, that he cherished for 30 years. His sons Jerry III, James and Jake and his grandchildren Junior, Angelina, Jonathan, Christopher and Paityn, that brought so much joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Carmen and his son Jonathan.
Burson, CA...On June 28th, 2020, at about 12:25 PM, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a drowning victim at Lake Camanche, Burson Ca. Witnesses reported a 12-year-old male entered the water near the Eucalyptus Day use area. A few minutes later, the 12-year-old began having trouble due to the uneven lake bottom and not knowing how to swim. A 17-year-old friend entered the water to assist the struggling person. The 17-year-old was able to grab the person and hand them to another nearby swimmer; however, he was unable to get himself to safety.
Young Antioch Man Lost His Life in Rainbow Pools Yesterday

Groveland, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Office..."We have some tragic news to share. Last night, our deputies, Search and Rescue, and Dive Team were called to Rainbow Pools in Groveland. We responded to a call someone fell into the water and had not surfaced. The body of 19-year-old Alvin Reyes Jr. of Antioch was later recovered by Dive Team and Search and Rescue members.
