Local Rotarians Host Exchange Students |

Arnold, CA...Eva Lee and Jim Burton, members of Arnold Rotary, are hosting 2 houseguests for several days who are visiting the US from China. Xiao Jiana (Nana) and Lv Ming Xin (Yan) are both university students who hail from southern China. Nana is majoring in Public Administration and Yan is majoring in Psychology. While they are staying in the Arnold area, they have a full schedule. They have already been kayaking on Union Reservoir, geo-caching with other like-minded enthusiasts, and have visited San Francisco and the UC Berkeley campus. They gave an update of their personal and family lives, and said they are having a wonderful time visiting here in the U.S.

Family friend, George Cannell informed me that on Saturday evening, Cocoa, a 5-year-old, miniature (14") female beagle, went missing from the Big Trees Village area. Arnold, CA...Stop by Calaveras Humane Society's Thrift Store Adoption Center in Arnold, located in Meadowmont Center next to Big Trees Market (Phone 209-795-GIVE). We'll be open THURS. - SAT., 10-5. We will have approximately 13 Kittens available to meet you–all KITTENS this week, and lots of them! Pebbles, our featured kitty this week, will only be available to meet you on Saturday, so please visit on that day if you'd like to see her. We are still having our 'Summer Of Love' Special, in which the adoption donation for Adults & Junior Kittens over 4 months of age is $35, and all Kittens up to 4 months old are $50. Six Fires Locally Yesterday in the Tuolumne Calaveras Area |

San Andreas, CA...There were six fires locally yesterday in our area. Many of which were lightening related. The largest was the Gopher fire at 75 acres near Copperopolis. Then there was the Melones fire near New Melones at about 2 acres. The Meadow fire came in at the third largest at ½ acre near Big Trees. Then there were the Fork and the Hogs fires that were in the 1/8th of an acre range...

Arnold, CA...The fishing on the highway 4 corridor has been excellent. Make sure to be fire safe at this time of year as it is very dry out in the woods. You must obtain a fire permit for your campsite if you are not using an improved campsite. Make sure you purchase your license before heading up here as we are the only store to sell licenses from Arnold up as we do experience problems with our machine occasionally....
