San Andreas, CA...The Mother Lode Summer Madness 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held Saturday, August 10 at Calaveras High School. The tournament is open to all players and will feature the following divisions for boys and girls: Elementary (up to sixth grade); Middle School (seventh and eighth graders); JV (ninth and 10th graders); Varsity (11th and 12th graders); as well as a new Open division for adults 18 and older....

Sierra Nevada Logging Museum Revved Up for Summer

Arnold, CA...The museum has been open for a little over two months, and visitor numbers are up. The museum is open from noon to 4:00 Thursdays through Sunday. There are new exhibits inside, the outdoor exhibits are in great shape, and the grounds are a beautiful setting for a picnic or an educational stroll....

Helvi McFraland - 1916-2013

Arnold, CA... Arnold resident Helvi McFraland died Monday June 10, 2013 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 97 years old (January 21, 1916 - June 10, 2013). She was born in Embarrass, MN to Hugo and Sandra Wallace. She married Matt Johnson in 1933 . They and their 2 children moved to El Cerrito CA in 1941. Her son Mel passed away in 1951. She worked as a mother and homemaker most of her life but did part time jobs on the side . She and Matt moved to Arnold in 1969 as did her daughter Margie and her family...

Angels Camp, CA...Philanthropic Consultant, Paul Stein accepted this generous donation from Mark Luster, Community Relations Manager for Sierra Pacific Industries Foundation. Mr. Luster states, ““At Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) we believe that through our contribution to The Calaveras Community Foundation, we can support the vital role it plays in this community by providing active and positive programs for youth, seniors and other residents of our county.”

Arnold, CA...Stop by Calaveras Humane Society's Thrift Store Adoption Center in Arnold, located in Meadowmont Center next to Big Trees Market (Phone 209-795-GIVE). We'll be open THURS.–SAT., 10-5. We will have approximately 7 kitties of all ages available to meet you this week. If you are closer to Angels Camp, make sure you check out our new Angels Camp Thrift Store Adoption Center, located in Angels Towne Center (240 S. Main St./Hwy 49), also open THURS.–SAT., 10-5. There will be kitties available at both locations!

Over forty community health related service groups will participate in this community-wide event.
