Sierra Pacific Industries Thanks Contractors for their Help with Butte Fire |

Anderson, CA -- Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) today expressed gratitude to local logging and road construction contractors who took tremendous risks to help control the Butte Fire that burned in Calaveras County, CA this month. During the fire, logging and road building contractors, timber fallers, trucking companies, and other related businesses mobilized equipment to various locations which proved to be critical to limiting the spread of fire. “These businesses and individuals made great sacrifices of time and effort, and in most cases took time off from their primary business activity to build fire lines for the protection of communities threatened by the Butte Fire” said SPI District Forest Manager Tim Tate. “We applaud the courageous efforts of local, state, and federal fire fighters, but the contractors also deserve credit for the work they accomplished,” he added.

THE ADOPTION CENTER IS OPENING A DAY EARLY THIS WEEK! We will be open WED. through SAT., 10 am–5 pm (Sept 30th - Oct. 3rd). Come in and meet Gem and loads of other fabulous feline friends. Our Angels Camp Adoption Center is closed this week, so Arnold is the place to be!

Mark Twain Medical Center is Once Again Promoting Pink in the Night in Honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. |

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be promoting the importance of early detection of breast cancer, followed by prompt treatment, saves lives. The entire community is invited to participate in the annual ‘Pink in the Night’ opening ceremony October 1st, in Valley Springs at the Terrace’s (Common Grounds) at 7:00pm. All those who currently have breast cancer, survivors and support providers will be able to light a candle in tribute to those who are currently battling breast cancer, in remembrance of those that bravely lost their battle, or ones that have survived the disease.

Calaveras Humane Society’s annual Black Cat-a-thon Special is underway and will be over soon! During the month of September the adoption donation for “Parlor Panthers” who are black or mostly black is significantly reduced! Our black cats will be off the market for the month of October to avoid any associations with Halloween, so this will be their last chance for adoption before they become temporarily unavailable. Fatal Injuries To Los Altos Man In Friday Evening Collision |

Murphys, CA…Last night a 67 year old Los Altos, CA man was driving his 1976 Fiat east on Hwy 4 at approximately 60 mph. As he came to a left curve he failed to negotiate the curve and allowed his vehicle to run off the roadway, down an embankment and collided with a tree. He was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries.

San Andreas, CA...Today the opening of roads and allowing people back into many of the burned areas in the fire perimeter accelerated. Late this afternoon we checked in the Coroners office and fatalities are holding at two. The one off of Jesus Maria that we reported yesterday and the recovery of another fire victim today. Fire behavior remained minimal throughout the night helping crews continue to progress with perimeter control. The evacuations in Amador County have been reduced to an advisory, allowing residents to return to their homes. ***Damage Assessment teams have arrived and started evaluations of damaged and destroyed structures*** Road Closures: (Calaveras County) SR 26 from Mokelumne Hill to Ridge Road; Ridge Road closed to Railroad Flat Road; Railroad Flat Road closed to Mountain Ranch Road; Mountain Ranch Road closed to Hwy 49; Michel Road is closed. Additional Road Closures: Mountain Ranch Road East of Willow Creek Sheep Ranch Road at Fricot City Road Sheep Ranch Road at Mountain Ranch Road Railroad Ranch Road at Jesus Maria Swiss Ranch Road at Railroad Flat Road Jesus Maria Road at SR 26
