The Annual Snagfallers' Ball Saturday November 7th!

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 10/26/2009 09:48 PM
Arnold, CA...The Snagfallers' Ball, Saturday, Nov. 7, at Independence Hall in White Pines. Social hr. begins at 5pm, dinner at 6pm dancing to Dance Magick 7::30pm. Admission: $15 per adult, kids under 18: $5. Snagfaller History: In the old logging days of yesteryear the loggers would put off falling the snags (dead trees) till the end of the season. Being dead, the trees were very dangerous to fall because the faller never knew which way the snag would fall.....hence they were frequent "widow makers". The wives would put together a special dinner on the eve of their snagfalling period hoping the celebration would bring their husbands home same and sound....

Hazel Fischer Elementary Fall Festival!~by Stefan Nilsen, ThePineTree Teen

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 10/25/2009 05:35 PM
Arnold, CA....Sunday, October 25th, was a very exciting day at Hazel Fischer Elementary School. The field was packed with tents and booths containing Halloween magic. These booths ranged from ball toss and mini golf to facepainting and a bake sale. The little kids dressed up, some scary others just plain cute. A few super heroes patrolled the grass and playground keeping a watchful eye out for rowdy goblins and rambunctious skeletons. Also this fest held host to some royalty. Queens and Princesses nobly played the games and watched the jester. Lastly, but surely not least crazy haired witches and vampires lurked about the candy apples and punch bowls.....

Ebbetts Pass Fire District Station One...Doing What it Was Designed to Do! By John Hamilton

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/22/2009 10:18 AM
Arnold, CA...Earlier this month when EPFD Station One was ground zero in the search for the missing local hunter it reminded us that The EPFD Board of Directors and then Chief Wilkes had it right all along and even took some lumps for designing and building the new station. The station is really coming into it's own and the foresight of those involved is becoming evident. The station was designed as much more than just a fire station. It was designed to be an operational base for any large scale disaster or incident. During the hunter search Calaveras County Sheriff's Department PIO Dave Seawell moved in a set up shop. He instantly had a place to work, make presentations, working internet and they even gave him his own office. All of the Sacramento market TV stations came and set up their satellite trucks in the parking lot....

Big Trees, A.R.T. and the Economics of Mountain Biking

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 10/21/2009 10:35 PM
We started our visit in Arnold, CA with a presentation we don’t give very often – The Economics of Mountain Biking. In less than an hour we covered a few topics and generally outlined the following formula: bicycle + people who spend money + destination with great trails = singletrack tourism. There’s definitely more to it than that but those components are key. As reformed ‘road trippers’ and past poster children for singletrack tourism, Chris and I were really inspired to share mountain bike success stories to various local riders, business people, and local leaders....

Central Sierra/Hwy 4 Fishing Report October 19, 2009 ~By Bill Reynolds

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/20/2009 06:22 AM
Arnold, CA...Lake Alpine has been producing some beautiful rainbows this past week. Tristen, an 8 year old caught an impressive 7lb rainbow. Kevin and John, two of our local young men also had a field day catching a limit of beautiful rainbows with the largest coming in at almost 3 lbs. The ramp is out of the water, so if you have a large boat it will be very tough to launch without doing damage to your boat and trailer....
