Arnold CA…Parks and recreation projects and their funding sources in the Ebbetts Pass corridor will be the subject of a public meeting, hosted by Mary Boblet, District III Parks and Recreation Commissioner, for Calaveras County. The meeting will be held today, Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 4pm in the Ebbetts Pass Fire Station meeting room in Arnold, located in the back of the fire station's facility. Root beer floats will be provided as a treat, with proceeds benefiting the Avery Middle School Music Program.....

White Pines, CA.....A not-often-enough-visited treasure is the Sierra Nevada Logging Museum owned and operated by the Friends of the Logging Museum, a non-profit group dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the timber industry in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Our Museum is located in Arnold, CA just off of Highway 4 in Calaveras County. Our mission is to represent, preserve, and disseminate information about the Timber Industry in all 18 Sierra Nevada ....

It sounded like a bomb hitting the house early one morning this past week. Carefully pulling back the curtains I peered outside half-expecting to find a huge tree laying across the deck. Instead, I spied what appeared to be an elongated hand-grenade neatly placed in the middle of the walkway. Cautiously, I stepped outside, and while investigating the scene, there was another “kaboom!” that sent me scurrying for cover under our front porch overhang. Bouncing off the chalet roof with such force that organic shrapnel went flying around me, I narrowly escaped becoming the Ground Zero of a well-placed 3-pound conifer grenade - a shiny green, sap-laden sugarpine cone.....
