CCWD Awards Two Scholarships Celebrating the Value of Water |

San Andreas, CA...Each year, the Calaveras County Water District awards two high school seniors with $500 scholarships. The students earn the scholarships by writing an essay about the value of water. The winners of the 2018 CCWD Scholarship Awards are: Claudia Loomis, Angels Camp, who graduated from Bret Harte High School and plans to pursue a degree in political science at Columbia College. Sierra Stephens, Arnold, who graduated from Bret Harte High School and plans to attend Montana State University to study computer science.

Calaveras County Arts Council is Proud to Present the Annual Calaveras County Artists Studio Tour September 22 & 23! |

San Andreas, CA...Thirty artists in nineteen locations throughout Calaveras County will open their homes and studios and display their artwork during the Calaveras County Arts Council Artists Studio Tour on September 22-23. The self-guided tour, free and open to the public, is an opportunity to meet the artists face-to-face, learn about their artwork, and discover treasures you will want to take home. Tour maps are available at businesses and public places throughout the county, as well as from the Arts Council. Call 209/754-1774 for more information, or go online at calaverasarts.org. There will be a special preview reception for Artists Studio Tour at the Gallery store at 22 N. Main Street in San Andreas on September 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. A general membership meeting will be held for the public as well. Artworks by the artists on the Artists Studio Tour will be on exhibit and there will be light refreshments; everyone is invited.
The kinetic and motorized sculptures by Vicki Burnham Wilson are a terrific addition to the gardens, gypsy wagons and blacksmithing at Michel Olson’s studio off Appaloosa Drive between Angels Camp and Copperopolis.
Ryan Anderson brings back the romantic art of vintage letterpress printing at his studio on French Gulch Road.
Sharon Strong’s masks (Pictured: Maori) are powerful pieces of art that remind us of our own spirits.
Shay Baker fills her Sheep Ranch studio with simple designs full of fun and fancy.

Now, his sons, daughters, and daughter in law have all helped run the business along with some fantastic local employees. The crew has completed small to very large projects. They can handle anything from grass and weeds to large tree thinning and have the proper equipment to handle flat to very steep terrain. IT’S NOT HOW FAST YOU MULCH, IT’S HOW WELL YOU MULCH FAST! JUST MULCH IT!

Donnell Fire Containment Climbs to 49% & Hwy 108 Reopens |

Pinecrest, CA...Highway 108 will open today at 4 pm all the way through to Highway 395. Vehicles are prohibited from stopping or deviating from the highway between Eagle Meadow Road (5N01) and Kennedy Meadows Road (6N01). The road to Kennedy Meadows will be open. Crews made progress around the northwest tip of the fire perimeter at Spicer Reservoir and are working to secure the saddle below the Dardanelle. Air support continues in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness assisting the Wildland Fire Modules spiked out in the area. A spot fire was found north of the Donnell Reservoir, a rappel crew will be inserted today to secure that western line. Crews continued mop up and suppression repair along the southern containment line. Hazard tree mitigation remains a priority.

Arnold, CA...Join us at the 4th Annual Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge Car show and Chili Cook-off, Saturday, August 18.
Last year we had an estimated 500 show goers, including the 250 people who tasted the best chili in the county. Thanks to community support we had 25 raffle prizes from day spa passes and dinner gift cards to car supplies. We expect the same great crowd this year.
