This Morning's Supervisors Meeting Recap and Video.....Jail Progress Gets Serious...Many Opinions on Bret Harte Benefit Basin and Much More ~By John Hamilton

San Andreas, CA...It was about a four and a half hour meeting this morning for the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors. The biggest item on the agenda was the selection and approving the contract with PSA/Dewberry, Inc to the tune of $3,750,000 to provide Architectural and Engineering Services for the proposed Adult Detention Facility, Sheriffs Administration Building, Dispatch Office and Operational Components and more. They estimate the project will take 42 months for design and construction. Also highlighting the meeting was a presentation by Dave Haley of Castle & Cooke and a Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce Board member. Dave is spearheading the Calaveras Profile 2010 project. San Andreas, CA...This mornings Trinitas Centric Board of Supervisors meeting is underway. There is another large crowd waiting to weigh in on the project. The Trinitas project has not come up on the agenda yet. This meeting will most likely take several hours at least. Because of it's location we cannot push the meeting live. We will post updates during the meeting anytime there is anything of import to pass along. As of 9:45am the board has yet to take up the project....

San Andreas, CA...It was another busy meeting for the Board. You can definitely tell we are entering Fair season as the local 4H Clubs were on hand to address the board. The Kids did wonderful job! Michele Shelton from the Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency was back to give a very nice presentation on their work to increase the Broadband penetration in the local rural counties. Robert Liebold from Velo Promo attended to make his case for the fast track approval of permits to hold the 26th Annual Copperopolis Road Race. The Board also passed a resolution proclaiming April as Alcohol Awareness Month. A large contingent from Behavioral Health was on hand to talk about substance abuse....

San Andreas, CA...The county will have some choices to be made soon. Revenue tied to the economy continues to decline. The county is looking at a structural deficit of $2.1 million. The Resource Reduction Strategies will be as follows Personnel Cost Saving Strategies, Mandated/Non-mandated programs and services, Contributions to community organizations, Reductions to General Fund Contributions more...(Oops We Had Wrong Video Link)

San Andreas, CA...The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution authorizing the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office to accept $164,618 in grant funding to re-establish the much needed California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team. Darryl Rusk spoke during public comments about the EBMUD proposed expansion of Pardee Reservoir. Brent Harrington addressed the Board on Trinitas. Assuming a decision is reached from the Planning Commission at their meeting at the San Andreas Town Hall this Thursday then the Supervisors have reserved the hall for the April 14th meeting when the Trinitas project is scheduled to come before the Supervisors. San Andreas, CA...It was a somber meeting that District 2 Supervisor Steve Wilensky led off with a moment of silence for the families and communty of Mountain Ranch. The Agenda Items paled when compared to the public comments on the tragic accident that claimed 4 young lives on Mountain Ranch Road. The discussion centered on what improvements could be made to prevent accidents like this one from happening again. Community members including Tammy Montgomery who lost three children in a moment of time and CHP Lieutenant Tim Port spoke. The sometimes rowdy Board Chambers acquired an almost church like atmosphere for quite some time...

San Andreas, CA...The Board had a light agenda yesterday and all of the agenda items moved forward. Larry Cornish from MTSJ stopped by to give an update on the latest at the hospital. Yesterday they proclaimed this month as Red Cross Month and a professional services agreement for the Transit System moved forward. The biggest item on the agenda was the proposed Pool Station Road development....

San Andreas, CA...Join Us Here for the Justice Center of the Board Meeting......UPDATE: The discussion right now is the $2,000,000 payment from the county to the San Andreas Sanitary District. The Supervisors are discussing measures that can be made to increase the comfort level of the county that the District will be able to perform the necessary upgrades. The Board has passed the portion regarding the Sanitary District on a 5-0 vote. Calaveras Sheriff Dennis Downum is now discussing the need for the jail and also stating the fact that the county needs to be able to use the threat of incarceration as a deterrent. Currently they are arresting 56% of the early release inmates on new charges. Some or a good portion of these crimes would most likely have been prevented if they had capacity to keep the inmates.....

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday at a busy Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Meeting, one of the most notable agenda items to move forward was the Agriculture and Forestry Element into the General Plan. This element has been crafted by local Agriculture, Agritourism and Forestry Concerns and was accepted by the county. Local notables such as Scott Klann from the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance and Addie Jacobson from Ebbetts Pass Forest Watch led the discussions from the community groups.
