2014 Calaveras County Science Fair Grand Prize Winner Jacob Black 5th Grade |

Calaveras County, CA ... Approximately 60 projects were judged by a teams of two judges, and there were 12 volunteer judges; Sherre Walsh, Mark Williams, Don Maund, Terry Hampton, George Fry, Jerry Martin, Bruce Redpath, David Voit, Maurice Bennett, Richard Debusman, Keith Jacoby, Renee Kelsey.

Mountain View, CA....On the 25th anniversary of the World Wide Web, we’re pleased to share this guest post from Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the web. In this post he reflects on the past, present and future of the web—and encourages the rest of us to fight to keep it free and open. Today is the web’s 25th birthday. On March 12, 1989, I distributed a proposal to improve information flows: “a ‘web’ of notes with links between them.”

Calaveras Ecnomic Development Company Aims to Increase Area Broadband |

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Economic Development Company (CCEDC) announces a new objective for the New Year: working to increase Broadband availability throughout Calaveras County. “The road to prosperity is at least partially available through the Internet,” stated the CCEDC. Citing the lack of high speed Internet in many parts of the county, the CCEDC is working with Central Sierra Connect (CSC) to identify areas lacking broadband availability. CSC representative Darrell Slocum provided an overview of the county’s current broadband infrastructure, projects under construction and need for expanded availability at a recent EDC meeting....

San Andreas, CA....The CCEDC has a guest speaker at the Wednesday, December 11, 2013, 2:00pm meeting of the Calaveras County Economic Development Company, (CCEDC). The meeting will be in the classrooms of Mark Twain Medical Center. The speaker is John MacWillie. He lived in Calaveras County during his youth, graduating from Calaveras High School. He has recently moved back to the county. He has been an executive in the software industry for thirty years and is leading a web-based technology startup currently out raising venture capital funding. The company is looking at placing many of its operations to Calaveras County. The title of Johns talk is: “Basic Economic Development Issues for High Tech Startups in Calaveras County” ...
