Amador & Sutter Creek Fire Rescue Ranger the Horse From Mineshaft

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/29/2018 01:45 PM
Jackson, CA...From Amador Fire...Yesterday afternoon Amador Fire crews along with Sutter Creek Fire District were called to the report of a horse stuck in a mineshaft. Upon arrival crews found the horse in approximately 6-8 feet of water. Crews quickly used portable pumps to remove as much water as they could. With the assistance of Lynch's Automotive’s crane and Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center, crews were able to sedate and secure the horse before removing him. Once removed, the veterinarians worked tediously to stabilize the horses injuries. The horse was then transported to a local vet and equestrian center. We would all like to wish Ranger a quick and speedy recovery.

"Cattle in the Sierra" Museum Exhibit Reception at Murphys’ Old-Timers Museum

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/24/2018 11:02 AM
Murphys, CA...Museum Exhibit Reception at Murphys’ Old-Timers Museum. Saturday February 24, 4 – 7 PM. Main Street Murphys, Calaveras County. Grazing cattle in the high country is a subject of controversy. Historic traditions and public use of forest resources must be balanced with water quality, meadow impacts, and the ringing of cowbells. A grant from California Humanities allowed historian Judith Marvin and Julia Costello to research this topic and this exhibit –and a forthcoming short film -- are results of their study. With help from the US Forest Service, Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center, and the Rasmussen, Dell’Orto, and Whittle ranching families, both history and modern practices are addressed. Descriptive panels with text and photos are displayed within a reconstructed ca. 1911 cow-camp tent outfitted with period gear.
