Operation Food Bank Deadline Extended

Because of the community’s positive response to the Operation Food Bank, the food bank drive has been extended one week to February 12th. The Employee Satisfaction Team at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is helping to restore Calaveras County’s Food Bank after the busy holiday season. Receptacles have been placed throughout the hospital and its four Family Medical Centers where employees, patients, friends and neighbors can bring.....

Mark Twain Hospital Announces Community Grant Awardees

Two local non-profit groups received grant funding as part of the Catholic Healthcare West/Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Community Grants Program. Grants were awarded to the Soroptimist’s Foundation and the Calaveras Children’s Dental Program. Projects funded will benefit the communities within Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital’s service area....

Copperopolis, CA....Rainy Skies, Slick Streets and an Icy Winds could not discourage Marathon Runners this weekend at the annual “Copper Run” held at Black Creek Park in Copperopolis, CA. While conditions may have been less than ideal for a ½ mile, 2 mile or 10k trek through the oak lined streets of Copper Cove, marathoners still managed to turn in incredibly low run times with surprisingly high spirits....

Calaveras County, CA....The Parkinsons Disease support group "San Andreas Movers & Shakers...it's not OUR fault!" announces monthly presentations for February through April. The group, which meets the first Tuesday of every month at the Calaveras Central Library in San Andreas from 9:30 AM - 12:00 NOON, welcomes patients, caregivers, family members and friends impacted by Parkinsons Disease and other neurological disorders. Interested community members are invited to join in the advocacy, education, friendship and support. There is no cost to attend meetings and reservations are not needed......

20-year-old David Perez, was critically injured in an automobile accident on December 12, 2005 in Victorville, CA. David clung to life for five days and died December 17, at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Because he had registered as an organ/tissue donor while getting his driver’s license just a month before his death, seven people directly benefited from David’s decision. ......

Angels Camp, CA....The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life meeting, hosted by Patty Turcotte, Stephanie Arrich, and Gerry Sachs, was held on January 15, 2009. There were 25 in attendance; about 20 returning teams and 5 new teams were formed. A CD presentation was shown which explained the origin and purpose of the Relay for Life. 25 years ago, Relay for Life founder, Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon, decided that something more needed to be done about this devastating disease that destroyed so many lives. In 1988, in Washington DC, he walked for 24 hours around a collage campus; one man with a dream raised $27,000 to fight cancer....
