Angels Camp, CA...Enjoy the Sierra Foothills on a 5K/10K race through the historic town of Angels Camp. Proceeds will benefit the students of Mark Twain Elementary School. This race will kick off with a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run at 8:00am. 5K & 10K will start at 8:30. All races begin in historic downtown Angels Camp at The Visitors Center. The race will conclude at Utica Park in Angels Camp. Along the race route, runners will enjoy many scenic and historic elements along the way to include Angels Creek, Gold Cliff, Lightner Mine, views of Bear Mountain and Greenhorn Creek Golf Course. It is not uncommon to spot grazing deer, wild turkeys, an abundance of birds and our resident cattle and horses.

The VA Palo Alto Health Care System Mobile Medical Outreach will provide brief medical examinations, consultations and referrals to all military veterans. No appointment necessary! California Department of Public Health Investigates Human Plague Case

Yosemite, CA...California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Director and State Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith today announced the department is investigating a case of human plague in California, and conducting an environmental evaluation in the Stanislaus National Forest, Yosemite National Park and the surrounding areas. The department began investigating this incident after a child from Los Angeles County became ill and was hospitalized after visiting the Stanislaus National Forest and camping at Crane Flat Campground in Yosemite National Park in mid-July. No other members of the camping party reported symptoms and health officials are continuing to monitor the child’s family and treatment providers. The child is recovering.

Murphys, CA...Wayne Brown, who retired as the Superintendent of the Stanislaus Union School District, has been chosen to be the first full time Executive Director of Mind Matters, the Murphys based non-profit clinic that is noted for its innovative treatment of autism and similar disorders. “As an educator, I am very much aware of the work being done by Mind Matters and how it can improve the lives of young people and their families,” says Brown. “I am pleased to have been chosen to lead the organization, to help it extend its programs and to secure the necessary funds to make that possible. I look forward to working closely with Dr. Thompson and his staff and interacting with the communities they serve.”
