Seasonal Heat Readiness for Tuolumne County

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/10/2014 07:15 PM
Sonora, CA... As we enter the hot season for the Sierra foothills, it is time to prepare by checking water stores, supplies of important medications and air conditioning systems in homes and businesses. If you know of neighbors or friends who might benefit from assistance during the coming hot weather, this might be a good time to check on them. If you are unaccustomed to working or exercising in hot weather, it is important to pace yourself, drink 16 to 32 ounces of liquids every hour if you must be active in the heat, and include some foods, juices or sports drinks to replace electrolytes (salts in the blood)....

Announcing Public Health Volunteer Opportunity

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 06/05/2014 04:58 PM
San Andreas, Ca...Calaveras Public Health Services is recruiting residents to be trained as Community Health Workers. Community Health Workers [CHW] guide adults in learning chronic condition self-management skills. The Community Health Workers conduct workshops in the areas where they live. “We are looking for adults that have a chronic condition or a partner/family member caring for someone with a chronic condition to become the CHWs,” stated Dr. Dean Kelaita, County Health Officer. The participants will learn the Healthier Living model developed by Stanford University. The strength of the model is that the CHWs are people in the community who also have chronic conditions and have been trained in self-management skills that include physical activity, reducing stress, healthy eating and communication with your doctor. This is an opportunity for local residents to gain personal skills in managing a chronic condition and support building skills with others...

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 06/04/2014 11:01 AM
Calaveras County, Ca... "Hospice is a concept of care that treats the person, not the disease, and emphasizes quality of life, not the duration." Since 1982, Hospice of Amador and Calaveras has been working to meet the needs of those nearing the end of their lives. Hospice care neither hastens nor postpones death but exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care, patients with life-limiting illnesses may live their remaining days pain-free and with dignity, and their families may accept and find their own new beginnings....

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/03/2014 04:43 PM
Arnold, CA....If a fundraising dinner is a sellout you know it was a successful event. With over 650 dinners sold, thousands more raised in silent auctions, throngs of people in attendance, the events was an impressive display of community generosity and caring. A Day For Trey event was a showcase of what a great community we have. The circumstances behind the fundraiser are heartbreaking with young Trey Jarnagin.
