Mark Twain Medical Center will host a special workshop on Feb. 14 focusing on how to achieve and maintain heart health. Heart Health = Everything is from 10 a.m. to noon in the MTMC Education Center. A complimentary luncheon follows the workshop and free CPR training is also available.
World Health Organization News Conference on Coronavirus Outbreak

Geneva, Switzerland....(CNBC)..World Health Organization officials hold a news conference to update the public on the new coronavirus outbreak. As of Friday, more than 31,000 cases of coronavirus have been reported in over two dozen countries, resulting in at least 636 deaths almost exclusively in China. The WHO declared the virus a global health emergency last week, a rare designation that helps the international agency mobilize financial and political support to contain the outbreak.

San Andreas, CA...The Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) Foundation is pleased to announce new board member, Darrie Gillespie. Gillespie joined the Board, as a Director, in January of 2020 and her term will be through January 2023. As a Foundation Board member, Gillespie will assist in developing resources, funding and community support for Mark Twain Medical Center. Gillespie is the AVP, Community Branch Manager for the Bank of Stockton in Angels Camp. A resident of Valley Springs, she is active in the Murphy’s/Angels Camp Rotary Club and Soroptimist International of Calaveras County. The Calaveras Chamber of Commerce and Angels Camp Business Association also benefit from her leadership and volunteerism. Gillespie has more than 34 years of managerial, sales and customer service experience.

Washington, DC...The United States has confirmed cases of individuals who have a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus (“2019-nCoV”) (“the virus”) first detected in Wuhan, Hubei Province, People’s Republic of China (“China”). The virus was discovered in China in December 2019. As of January 31, 2020, Chinese health officials have reported approximately 10,000 confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV in China, more than the number of confirmed cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) during its 2003 outbreak. An additional 114 cases have been confirmed across 22 other countries; in several of these cases, the infected individuals had not visited China. More than 200 people have died from the virus, all in China.
WHO Declares the New Coronavirus Outbreak a Public Health Emergency

Geneva, Switzerland...The second meeting of the Emergency Committee convened by the WHO Director-General under the International Health Regulations (IHR) (2005) regarding the outbreak of novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV in the People’s Republic of China, with exportations to other countries, took place on Thursday, 30 January 2020, from 13:30 to 18:35 Geneva time (CEST). The Committee’s role is to give advice to the Director-General, who makes the final decision on the determination of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The Committee also provides public health advice or suggests formal Temporary Recommendations as appropriate.
