San Diego, CA...An estimated 41,280 new and resale houses and condos were sold statewide last month. That was up 2.6 percent from 40,216 in September, and down 2.4 percent from 42,293 for October 2008. California sales for the month of October have varied from a low of 25,832 in 2007 to a peak of 70,152 in 2003, while the average is 44,451. MDA DataQuick's statistics go back to 1988...

Sacramento, CA...A report commissioned by the state and available on the State's SBA website lays out the true cost of doing business in the state. This was discussed at length at a local Chamber of Commerce meeting this week. It is worse than many had believed. Maybe there is a reason the state is $20-30 Billion in the red. Is it time for a balanced budget amendment and a fresh look at the regulatory environment in California? In Calaveras we recently lost several high tech, robotic manufacturing jobs to Idaho purely on the cost's of manufacturing in California. The company was based in Arnold and didn't want to leave the state but felt they had no choice...

Valley Springs, CA....The Valley Springs Area Business Association held its monthly luncheon on Wednesday, November 18th at El Torero Restaurant in Burson. The guest speaker for this event was CUSD Superintendent Mark Campbell. The luncheon began with VSABA Chairperson George Nelson reminding attendees of the Annual Christmas Parade and Craft Fair on December 5th and the Annual Christmas Party/Citizen of the Year Presentation to be held on December 12th. Both of these affairs will take place at the Veterans Hall in Valley Springs. ....

Murphys, CA...Charlie Creighton will be the new President of The Murphys Community Club and two new local residents have been added to the board it has been announced by outgoing President Michal Houston. The officers and board members will be installed by Supervisor Tom Tryon at the club’s fifth annual Holiday Dinner Dance on Friday, December 11 at Ironstone Vineyards on Six Mile Road in Murphys. The general public is encouraged to attend. “As I complete my term in office I am very pleased to be able to turn over the leadership role to Charlie who has demonstrated great energy and a devotion to the goals of the Murphys Community Club,” states Houston. “This year he did a fantastic job in organizing our First Fridays in the Park series.” ....

Murphys, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Gala and
“Dancing with the Sierra Stars” was a tremendous success bringing in nearly $94,000 and helping to complete a $1 million campaign to bring digital mammography to the hospital started last year. Bob Hussmann, foundation president, showcased the accomplishments of its founders, past presidents and members over the past twenty-five years. In his words, “We are truly fortunate to live in a community that generously supports healthcare and understands its importance.” ....

Murphys, CA...The Sold Out Alhambra Room at Ironstone is still filled with over 200 of the area's gliteratti that are really glittering tonight. Black ties and sequinned gowns are standard faire. They have yet to announce the judged dancing routines but the real winner is already apparent. The Hospital Foundation stands to gain significantly from tonight's event. We spoke with the Foundation's Nicki Stevens and while they are still tabulating...the event should raise over $60,000 for the Foundation. The Kautz Family was unbelievably generous with their huge contribution of 200 dinners for tonight's fundraiser....
Even the President Sent His Best Wishes on the 25th Anniversary of the Hospital Foundation!
