Copperopolis, CA...The scheduled debate with Russ Thomas vs. Darren Spellman was billed as a Chamber of Commerce and Copperopolis Business Association led, organized and moderated event this evening in the Old Amory. The event went downhill and was over before it ever got started. During the candidates opening statements Candidate Spellman stated that because the Chamber Board President, Mark Luster's company, SPI had contributed to Supervisor Thomas's campaign he felt the questions may be biased. He then stated he would only answer questions from District 5 residents that were spoken to him and not written down ahead of time....

Sonora, CA...The new Kohl's Department Store is now open in the Junction Shopping Center. This store will bring 130 full and part time jobs to the area. Dignitaries and business leaders were on hand a few minutes ago for the ribbon cutting. Local Government & Business leaders including Tuolumne County Craig Pedro and Tuolumne County Economic Development's Larry Cope gave brief speeches but the real start of this mornings show were the Kohl's managers and employees who are bringing new shopping opportunities to the area...

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. – Kohl’s Department Stores (NYSE: KSS) is proud to open 21 new stores this fall including the Sonora, California location which will hold its grand opening on Wednesday, September 29. With the opening of this store and a new customer service operations center in Texas, Kohl’s will create approximately 130 local jobs and approximately 4,000 jobs nationwide. Washington, DC...The Commerce Department’s U.S. Census Bureau today released data on new residential construction in August 2010. Permits for new housing units rose 1.8 percent in August. The increase centered around multi-family permits. Analysts expected little change in total permits. Housing starts increased 10.5 percent to its highest level since April, well above private-sector expectations...

Valley Springs, CA...La Contenta played host to this years well attended Calaveras Visitors Bureau Annual Dinner. Tourism has been our local economic star as even in down economic times tourism and visits to our area are showing consistent growth. Many of our tourism related businesses have had some of their best results ever. Bear Valley Mountain is a great example. Mother Nature blessed them with great snow for their regular season and they have kept the hammer down for the rest of the year. This year they started a successful downhill mountain biking program and in October they are bringing in the "Tough Mudder" competition that will bring over 6,000 competitors to our area...

Angels Camp, CA...Representatives from the Calaveras Visitors Center and City of Angels Camp met yesterday to start working on getting a new lease for the Visitors Center in place. The City has offered to lower the proposed rent from $2,000 to $1,139.40 per month. The City has also given the CVB an extension of it's current lease until November 1st of this year while the parties negotiate...
