Valley Springs, CA...The Trinitas Golf Course entered into Chapter 11 Bankrupcy protection yesterday afternoon according to Trinitas Owner Mike Nemee. The bank has been notified so the proposed sale scheduled for tomorrow is off. Now the battle for the Trinitas project moves squarely to the courts. City Council Recap.. Angels Camp Cuts An Officer, Greenhorn Creek Streets Join the City and Angels Camp has a new budget. (Updated with Meeting Video)

Angels Camp, CA...The meeting venue for Tuesday evening's changed to the meeting hall at the Catholic Church to hold the large crowd that wanted to weigh in again on the City accepting the Greenhorn Creek Streets into the City system. Subject to a survey that is exactly what will happen. The city also had to worry about belt tightening. This resulted in the elimination of one Officer position. Several members of the community and local business owners spoke on the adverse affects losing an Officer would have on the city. The Council felt as if they had no choice as the budget deficit for this year is approximately $600k. Eliminating one Officer position will save the City approximately $88k per year.

The Latest Labor Dept Report. National Unemployment Rate Climbs to 9.8%...

Washington, DC...Nonfarm payroll employment continued to decline in September (-263,000), and the unemployment rate (9.8 percent) continued to trend up, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The largest job losses were in construction, manufacturing, retail trade, and government. Household Survey Data. Since the start of the recession in December 2007, the number of unemployed persons has increased by 7.6 million to 15.1 million, and the unemployment rate has doubled to 9.8 percent....

Bear Valley, CA...This is the video of the Planning Commission meeting that we attended and talked about last week. This meeting was attended by a large cross section of business interests from not only Alpine County but from all along the Ebbetts Pass Corridor. They all made appearances to show their support for the new Bear Vallry Village and Village lift. John Buckley also spoke about what he and Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center (CSERC) believe are additional environmental measures that need to be taken for the project...

Mixers are held one evening per month at a VSABA establishment that would like to open its business up to the community. Angels Camp, CA...California State Senator Dave Cox was the keynote speaker at today's Chamber of Commerce luncheon. The central focus was jobs and the economy. He talked about how over regulation. onerous labor laws. and other costs of doing business in California pushed Toyota to close the last automobile plant in California. Toyota had been asking for relief for several years or they would be forced to leave....they left. On a good note for local jobs was the recent increase in timber harvesting plans form 5-7 years. This small plan will have very positive impacts on the timber industry...
