Sonora, CA...I am a technology enthusiast and have worked in the Information Technology field for the last twelve years. As someone who’s followed news of new gadgets and technology as a hobby and for use in my professional life, I was extremely excited by the news of the iPhone. This device seemed to me more than just a new phone; it had the potential to be much more, an internet gateway that fit in the palm of my hand, a true mobile computer. The possibilities were endless, or so I thought.

Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) Community Grants Awarded

Stockton, CA...At a recent awards luncheon at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, four Calaveras County organizations received a total of $22,000 from the 2010 Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) Community Grant Program. The awards were presented by Feliciano Jiron, President and CEO of Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital, Larry Cornish, V.P, Facilities and Project Development, and Lew Steele, Vice Chair of the Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Healthcare Corporation Board of Trustees. The awardees included the Calaveras Children’s Dental Project, the Calaveras Senior Center, the Resource Connection Early Childhood Programs and the Resource Connection Food Bank to support their community projects. Each year Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital and Catholic Healthcare West seek to partner with Calaveras County nonprofit organizations who are working to improve the health status and quality of life of the local communities....

Angels Camp, CA...Froggy’s Auto Wash & Lube, located in Angels Camp at 572 South Main Street, designed and built by Chris Oddo and Urban Gomes of Fairway Construction opened for business in 2002. They entered a contest in “The National Oil & Lube News” which features Oil & Lube facilities from around the world. Froggy’s Auto Wash & Lube received a first place award for “Best Landscaping for a Lube Shop” and also won an honorable mention award that tied with a facility in Saudi Arabia for “Best Looking Lube Shop.”..

Governor Brown Orders Immediate State Car Cutback

SACRAMENTO – In an effort to cut the state’s passenger vehicle fleet in half, Governor Jerry Brown today directed all state agencies and departments to immediately halt new car purchases and turn in taxpayer-funded cars that are not essential to state business. “There is a lot of wasteful spending on cars that aren’t even driven,” Brown said. “And we can’t afford to spend taxpayer money on new cars while California faces such a massive deficit.”

GDP-3.2% in 4th Quarter

Washington, DC...Real gross domestic product -- the output of goods and services produced by labor and property located in the United States -- increased at an annual rate of 3.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2010, (that is, from the third quarter to the fourth quarter), according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the third quarter, real GDP increased 2.6 percent..
