Sawmill Lake Planning Meeting Tomorrow. Potentially Up To 800 New Residences in Copperopolis |
Posted by: thepinetree on 09/12/2012 10:54 AM

Copperopolis, CA...The Calaveras County Planning Commission will have a significant project from Castle & Cooke on the agenda for tomorrow's meeting. The 243 acre Sawmill Lake project from Castle & Cooke could potentially bring up to 800 new residences and needed investment in the area. Castle & Cooke's Dave Haley has been frustrated with the county on this and other projects. The General Plan Update process is usually given as the reason for the delays. Problems in timely completion of planning components to anticipated projects stems from 2006 decisions to enact a planning moratorium and changing the General Plan update process from one of constant and quarterly updates to a complete rewrite, visioning and new plan. Until the General Plan process is finished it poses significant problems for the business sector and job creation in the county. The County's Executive Summary on the project is enclosed...

Los Angeles, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed sweeping bipartisan pension reform legislation that saves billions of taxpayer dollars by capping benefits, increasing the retirement age, stopping abusive practices and requiring state employees to pay at least half of their pension costs. “This is the biggest rollback to public pension benefits in the history of California pensions,” said Governor Brown. “We’re lowering benefits to what they were before I was Governor the first time and reducing costs by up to $55 billion in PERS and billions more in other local pension systems. Under the new rules, employers and employees alike are going to contribute their fair share of the costs, resulting in a more sustainable system.”..
