Sonora, CA—After 5 years of monthly meetings efforts to build collaborative agreement by a diverse gathering of local governments and agencies, non-government organizations, and the US Forest Service, all signed off today on a package of water resources projects that will be forwarded in an application to the State of California Department of Water Resources (DWR) for millions of dollars in State bond funding. The participants in the Tuolumne-Stanislaus Integrated Regional Water Management Program have been diligently working to better understand each other’s objectives and duties as well as crafting an Integrated Regional Water Management Plan, so this area would be eligible to apply for millions of dollars in funding for water resources and flood management projects. Douglas Flat, CA... (From 2008! A great piece not only on Chatom Vineyards but the Calaveras Wine Industry.) We had the pleasure of spending 30 minutes with one of the integral parts of the local wine industry, Gay Callan of Chatom Vineyards. Gay Callan and Chatom Vineyards have been growing and producing great wines here locally in Calaveras County since the early 1980's. Now with over 20 area wineries and more on the way we thought it would be a great time to spend a few minutes getting to know one of the people and businesses that has been here for much of the industry's growth. Gay is a native San Franciscan but her family has deep farming roots in the Central Valley. More of the article from 2008 is enclosed...
Owners of Burned Historic Victorian Want Your Suggestions
Posted by: thepinetree on 02/22/2013 10:14 AM
Murphys, CA...The owners of the Historic Victorian that housed the Renner Tasting Room would like your advice and suggestions. While still deeply saddened at it's loss they are starting necessary task of making plans to rebuild. As it looks like what is left of the structure will have to be completely removed they would like to know what the community would like to see in it's place. Should they try to recreate the structure which had many deficiencies as a commercial structure or put a completely new design in it's place? If new what type of structure would be appropriate for Downtown Murphys? We have just spoke with the Calaveras County Building Department and their policy is to try and fast track rebuilding projects like this one to get owners lives back on track as quickly as possible. This will be our poll this week So please make votes and leave comments there. Thanks so much!!

Perfect Weather and Big Crowds for Presidents Wine Weekend ~By John Hamilton

Murphys, CA...Calaveras County's Wine Region worked it's magic last weekend with big, enthusiastic crowds, perfect weather, and a picture perfect Murphys backdrop. The winery properties and tasting rooms on Main Street rolled out the red, white and more for the throngs. If this weekend was a precursor of what we can expect on future events this year then if the weather cooperates Irish Day should fill Murphys to overflowing. We took an hour or so taking some shots from one end of town to the other trying to pass along the feel of the day. It was mostly a visitor crowd but a few locals like Mike Croshaw, Skye Cirello, Tami & Jeff Taurian and Kristina Van Cleave pictured below bravely waded into the Main Street Crowds...
