US Labor Secretary Perez on December employment numbers

Washington, DC...U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez issued the following statement about the December 2014 Employment Situation report released today: “The U.S. economy closed out the year on a continued hot streak – 252,000 new jobs, with the unemployment rate falling to 5.6 percent. December was the 58th consecutive month of private sector job growth, to the tune of 11.2 million jobs. Average unemployment for 2014 was down 1.2 percentage points from 2013, the largest decrease since 1984....

Sonora, CA...The Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau is excited to present the 3rd annual Tuolumne County Restaurant Week, January 18-24, 2015. This week-long celebration of local restaurants is also being promoted as part of a larger Visit California Restaurant Month campaign, Dine in California. The idea is to bring the awareness of the quality of dining we have right here in Tuolumne County by getting local residents and visitors out to experience our many wonderful restaurants. Eleven Tuolumne County restaurants are currently participating: 1859 Historic National Hotel and Acclaimed Restaurant, Banny’s at Mountain Springs, Caffé Blossom, Christopher’s Ristorante, Columbia Kate’s Teahouse & Bakery, Dori’s Tea Cottage & Café, The Cellar Door at the Groveland Hotel, The Rock of Twain Harte, The Steam Donkey at Pinecrest Lake Resort, Willow Steakhouse & Seafood Grille and The China House. Angels Camp, CA...The Angels Camp Business Association held the 24th annual Parade of Lights Nov. 29 in historic downtown Angels Camp, alongside the city’s Christmas of Angels event with an audience of thousands. Visitors from far and wide filled the street along with local residents to enjoy the lighted hour long parade, as well as shopping at Main Street businesses that featured festive treats, a sidewalk sale and local wines..

San Andreas, CA...December 16 2014 the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to adopt a resolution dedicating 6.93 acres of Calaveras County owned property for development of the Calaveras County Animal Services. This acreage will be leased to the Calaveras Humane Society to design and fund a New Animal Shelter....

District 3 Director Bertha Underhill was elected president, and District 2 Director Terry Strange was elected vice president – both won their seats in November. Calaveras County Draft General Plan Now Available For Public Review

San Andreas, CA...The Draft General Plan for Calaveras County is now available for public review and comment. The release on December 18, 2014 begins a 90-day review period. The draft plan is available on the Planning Department’s web site. Hard copies will be available for viewing at the Planning Department, all County library branches, and may be purchased at the San Andreas Print Shop. A disc containing all of the Draft General Plan documents may also be purchased from the Planning Department. Draft #3 of the Land Use Map will be posted at the Planning Department and will be available for on-line viewing beginning the week of December 22nd. Additional information enclosed....

Angels Camp, CA...The Angels Camp Business Association awarded Firefall Jewelers first place during the annual ACBA Holiday Decoration Contest. Markwick’s Medium-Psychic won second place, The Salon third place and Prestige Gallery fourth place. Rotarians Help Provide Mobility

San Andreas, CA...Angels-Murphys Rotary Club Past-Presidents John Holleman and Roger La Jeunesse have an ongoing project of collecting broken and used wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Rotary District 5220 has partnered with Hope Haven West to repair and distribute the wheelchairs where they are sorely needed. Members of Riverbank Rotary have gone on delivery trips to fit specific recipients with their chairs in Mexico, Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Chairs and equipment which need repair are sent to the South Dakota State Penitentiary where inmates refurbish them. The wheelchairs are provided primarily to children who are living with undiagnosed spina bifida, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy. Some are adults who have never had a means of movement other than being carried by family members...
