Chamber of Commerce & Enterprise Candidates Night for District 4 Packs the House!

Murphys, CA....Native Sons Hall of Murphys was the place to be tonight for the Supervisor Candidates District 4 Night. The Hall was packed with community members trying to decide who they want representing them in their District. Present were Tom Tryon, Lee Seaton, Sarah Lunsford and Ron Klass. This event event was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Calaveras Enterprise. Each Candidate was asked questions by Moderator, Buzz Eggleston, Editor of the Calaveras Enterprise. The audience also participated in questions for the hopeful candidates. The evening started at 6:30pm and ran until about 8:30pm. The next Candidates Night will be held on Wednesday May 7th at 6:30pm at San Andreas Town Hall for District I Supervisor. Present will be Zerrall McDaniel, Gary Toffanelli and Kathy Mazzaferro. As we get closer to election day the candidates are starting to define their positions in clearer terms. We will be posting some excerpt clips of some of the sharper exchanges in a separate piece. Angels Camp, CA....The Angels Camp City Council is back in action Tuesday, May 6th starting at 4:30pm with a City Council/Planning Commission Workshop. At this workshop they will discuss Large Format Retail Stores and Curb, Gutters and Sidewalks; The Regular meeting will begin at 6pm. Some of the agenda items being discussed are the Cancellation of Landscaping Lighting District Assessment Election to increase LLD Assessment Fees; Support of Farmers Market by Anne Forrest of the Angels Camp Business Association; Circulation Committee Appointment which will be Dorian Faught to serve as Business Owner representative on the Traffic Circulation Committee; There will also be a Public Hearing Appeal regarding the Planning Commission conditions of approval and request an improvement waiver regarding project no 2007-04; They will also be advertising for the vacant seat on the Planning Commission for a 3 year term from July 2008~July 2011; Draft Hwy 49 Access Management Plan Scope of work and more. My typical relaxing Saturday was recently given an all too familiar jolt when the calm of my early morning was broken by the thunder of airplanes and helicopters flying closely overhead. Stepping outside I looked up to see exactly what I didn't want to, a CDF Tactical plane, Tanker and Helicopter - and they were close, seemingly circling directly over head. Scanning the horizon, I found that the fire was very close, only about a 1/4 mile from my home.....

Murphys, CA....The ever so popular, SNAC, Sierra Nevada Adventure Company, held a Soft Opening of their third location in downtown Murphys across the street from the Murphys Historic Hotel today. This store is absolutely gorgeous, hard wood flooring and everything! It will without a doubt, be one of the retail anchors of downtown Murphys. Men, you will not have to sit on the benches anymore and eat ice cream while your lady shops at the Murphys boutiques.....SNAC has a large selection of clothing, shoes and gear just for you....
