CCWD Has Spent 70 Years Preparing For Drought ~ Guest Opinion Part One By Terry Strange

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/12/2016 01:44 PM
San Andreas, CA...Of the many natural resources found in Calaveras County, water is arguably the most valuable, and protecting access to the water that originates here is critical to the county’s future. This has long been recognized by the Calaveras County Water District, which has been a faithful steward of the county’s greatest asset for the past 70 years. Thankfully, the people of Calaveras County have consistently supported these efforts. Like the county, the District has grown over those decades and as of July 2016, it supplies water to about 21,000 people, local businesses, agriculture and other beneficial uses. It also provides about 11,500 people with wastewater service, and the vast majority of treated water is recycled and put to beneficial use, such as golf course irrigation.

CCWD Isn’t Letting Its Guard Down On Conservation ~ Guest Opinion Part Two By Terry Strange

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/12/2016 01:52 PM
San Andreas, CA....We just endured a four-year drought that was so severe, scientists had to go back more than a thousand years in tree ring records to find its equal. While the 2012-2015 dry spell may have been interrupted by a near-average winter in 2015-2016, and some reservoir levels have increased significantly, that doesn’t mean the state of California is out of the drought. And that’s why, even with our own drought-resilient water supply, the Calaveras County Water District is not letting its guard down when it comes to conservation.

Rail Road Flat Elementary School Uses Their 3D Printer to Make a Prosthetic Hand

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/11/2016 10:04 PM
Rail Road Flat, CA...The sixth grade students of Mr. Randall Youngblood’s class were told of a program called e-Nable in which a 3D printer was used to make a hand for a child that didn’t have one. “The e-NABLE Community is an amazing group of individuals from all over the world who are using their 3D printers to create free 3D printed hands and arms for those in need of an upper limb assistive device. They are people who have put aside their political, religious, cultural and personal differences – to come together and collaborate on ways to help improve the open source 3D printable designs for hands and arms for those who were born missing fingers or who have lost them due to war, disease or natural disaster.
