Arnold, CA....Motor on up to the newest old-fashioned diner in town! My son had heard there was a new place in town to secure a good old-fashioned ice cream cone. That was enough excuse to venture out on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We struck it rich at Susie’s! He chose a double-scoop of mint chip on a plain cone from the list of flavors that includes bubble gum, birthday cake and chocolate chip cookie dough. Although I relaxed in the dining room....

Murphys Pool Projects Springboards Ahead and Students Honored at Meeting

Murphys, CA...The Angels-Murphys Rotary Club is spearheading efforts to make some needed renovations at the Murphys Community Pool. Their efforts took a huge stroke forward when the Native Daughters of the Golden West decided to contribute $6,500 towards their cause. This and additional funds from the Rotary Club will make significant improvements to the facility. Some of the improvements include a new roof for the restrooms, barbque pit renovations and more. The check was presented at the Weekly Rotary Meeting at Ironstone. The Native Daughters have been very active in their support of our local institutions. Not too long ago they donated over $16,000 for the Bret Harte Greenhouse project. Our community owes a debt...

In the last few months the company has added three hybrid vehicles to their fleet (bringing their hybrid vehicle total to five) and redesigned their invoice to a two column format saving a significant amount of paper. In addition the cell phone recycling program has been expanded to accept discarded phones from anyone plus reusable shopping bags are now offered at all retail locations. Angels Camp, CA......The Angels Camp Business Association held their annual Autumn Sidewalk Sale this weekend. The sale took place along the entire length of Main Street in Angels Camp on Saturday from 9am-5pm. Green, yellow and orange balloons lined the street signaling merchants who were participating in the autumn event. Everyone who was shopping had their bags in hand ready to get a great deal on holiday items, antiques, clothing, collectibles, food and more.....

Copperopolis, CA...Several new businesses have been opened and are getting ready to open or opening soon in Copperopolis Town Square. Once a Tree has opened their doors with beautiful handcrafted wood products. Right next door they will soon be moving in fixtures & inventory into the new Firefall Jewelry store. This will make three Calaveras County stores for Firefall. They currently have stores in Angels Camp and Valley Springs. Once the Copperopolis store has opened they will have coverage of the entire Calaveras County market. The Square is absolutely gorgeous this fall...

The meeting and scoping session on October 18th at 10am in The Bear Valley Lodge will be led by the Alpine County Planning Department. This document has been over two years in the making. The Village Draft EIR is different from the Forest Service EAR with will cover improvements to the Bear Valley Mountain Resort area. The Draft EIR will cover the New Village Development...
