The Paper Based News World Continues It's Slide

Sacramento, CA...The paper based news outlets continue their decline. This week the Free Weekly the Sacramento Union has ceased publication. This is just the latest in the continuing wave of of Newspapers to shrink or cease publication. From The Rocky Mountain News shuttering in Denver to the Seattle Post Intelligencer and the San Francisco Chronicle that are fighting for life. It seems the the paper based news model is entering uncharted waters.

Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Numbers

Washington, DC...Nonfarm payroll employment continued to fall sharply in February (-651,000), and the unemployment rate rose from 7.6 to 8.1 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Payroll employ-ment has declined by 2.6 million in the past 4 months. In February, job losses were large and widespread across nearly all major industry sectors...

San Andreas, CA...Join Us Here for the Justice Center of the Board Meeting......UPDATE: The discussion right now is the $2,000,000 payment from the county to the San Andreas Sanitary District. The Supervisors are discussing measures that can be made to increase the comfort level of the county that the District will be able to perform the necessary upgrades. The Board has passed the portion regarding the Sanitary District on a 5-0 vote. Calaveras Sheriff Dennis Downum is now discussing the need for the jail and also stating the fact that the county needs to be able to use the threat of incarceration as a deterrent. Currently they are arresting 56% of the early release inmates on new charges. Some or a good portion of these crimes would most likely have been prevented if they had capacity to keep the inmates.....

Consumer Spending and Incomes Were Up in January

Washington, DC...Personal income grew 0.4 percent in January. Wages and salaries, the largest component of personal income, fell 0.2 percent after falling 0.4 percent in December. The January timing of pay raises boosted government wages, and cost-of-living adjustments to social security and other programs boosted transfers. Excluding these and other special items, personal income rose 0.2 percent after falling 0.3 percent...

Mark Twain St. Hospital Awards Grant Funds to Youth's

Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital recently announced the awards for their 2008 Endowment for Youth Program. Each year the hospital’s Thrift Stores provide funding opportunities for not-for-profit Calaveras County projects that provide services to children ages 0-18. For this funding period, $28,500 was awarded to 46 local organizations to support their youth programs. “We are very pleased to once again provide funding to support their organization’s mission, especially in today’s economic environment” said Thrift Store manager Diana Rodrigues. “Our community is blessed to have these.....

Angels Camp, CA...The only Incorporated city in Calaveras County now has a spiffy new state of the art website. The site went live yesterday and will allow City staff to do the bulk of site maintenance themselves. Now when the City needs to get the word out, post updates, etc. City Clerk Mary Kelly and others can now just log in and make changes. The site was designed by local computer consulting firm...
