Crews Making Progress on Opening Ebbetts Pass!

Lake Alpine, CA...Local Caltrans crews have been working hard on getting the passes open for summer. Below are some Caltrans photos from Rob via Sandi Pearce from Sierra Sentry. The blowers have made it to Hermit Valley so they are making very good progress. No word yet on Official Opening Day estimate.

Arnold, CA...Linda Baker followed a proud tradition dating back to 1934 when Bernice Arnold was appointed the first Arnold Postmaster. Baker began her postal career as a part time flexible clerk in 2004. She was selected to her first management position in 2007 as Avery Postmaster. In 2012, she served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Arnold Post Office, the position she held prior to being selected as the Arnold Postmaster...

Bret Harte Grad Joins VisionCare to Help Market Implantable Telescope

Murphys, CA...Bret Harte graduate Andrew Weathers recently addressed the Angels/Murphys Rotary at Ironstone Winery about Vision Care the medical device that the company he is with. VisionCare makes and markets a mini telescope eye implant that helps some end stage macular degeneration patients see. It is FDA approved and Medicare covers the treatment costs. Locally UC Davis put one in a Pollock Pines woman in 2012 The patient does need to meet pretty stringent criteria but the results can be remarkable. Andrew was asked by his Grandfather and Rotary Member Larry Byrnes to come up and speak. The device and the company are getting extensive press coverage and have additional information on the technology behind the device enclosed...

Fresno to be Site for Covered California Call Center

Sacramento, CA...Covered California announced today that Fresno will be the location for one of three state-of-the-art call centers that will handle questions from Californians, and help them understand the new health benefits available through the Affordable Care Act. Almost 500 staff will be hired and trained at the Fresno call center to assist consumers with online purchasing of Covered California health insurance products. The center will open in the fall, with the location to be announced soon.

Bear Valley Will Party, Pondskim and Race To Close Out a Great 2012/2013 Season

Bear Valley, CA. April 6, 2013 ‐ Bear Valley Mountain, the Central Sierra Nevada’s premier family skiing and snowboarding resort, announced today that, weather permitting, the resort plans to close for the winter season following the last day of skiing and riding scheduled for Sunday, April 14, 2013. Several events are planned for closing weekend including the resort’s annual “Reggae on the Mountain”, “Pondskimming” and “Jib Jam” events which are all happening Saturday April 13th, 2013. On the last day of skiing and riding, Sunday April 14th, the resort has more in store, including its annual Season Passholder Appreciation BBQ and the annual “Slush Cup” Giant Slalom, fun race, which benefits the Bear Valley Education Foundation (B.V.S.E.F.). We want to extend a heartfelt thanks for a great ski season due in large part to all of you. From Wine Tasting in the Meadow in November to the Sunday Ski Improvement series, Wednesday/Sunday Strider Glider class, Thursday Adult class to record turnout for the 40th annual Bjornloppet and Tour de Bear Valley, great skiing and snowshoeing memories were made here in Bear Valley!
