Murphys, CA...The monthly Chamber of Commerce mixer rolled into the Murphys Hotel on Thursday night. It featured Renner Wines and Renner Wines made an announcement for their new tasting room location on Main Street in Murphys. A good sized crowd talked about business in the county. Brian from Murphys Hotel also gave an update about their expansion and renovations under way. It's great to see the new owners investing and moving the Murphys Hotel forward for it's next 150 years. Gasoline Excise Tax to Increase 3.5 Cents on July 1, 2013

Sacramento, CA...Effective July 1, 2013, the excise tax on gasoline will increase 3.5 cents per gallon to 39.5 cents per gallon and the excise tax on diesel fuel will remain unchanged at 10 cents per gallon following a vote February 28, 2013 by the California State Board of Equalization, which executed its legislative mandate to adjust the rate by March 1....

Murphys, CA...Tomorrow The Renner Winery Tasting Room will move to the Metate Hill location across from Murphys Hotel on Main Street. Congrats to Renner for being able to move to a location that will be centrally located on the heart of Main Street. Angels Camp, CA....It’s been a busy month for the Calaveras Visitors Bureau. Last weekend I was in Santa Clara promoting Calaveras County at the Bay Area Travel & Adventure Show where we obtained 372 entries for a fantastic Calaveras getaway for two put together by Destination Angels Camp. Offering a free giveaway is a great way to obtain valuable contact information that we can use to market directly to people interested in our destination. The lucky entrant, the Reverend Dan Yeazel, won an exciting OARS whitewater rafting trip, zips on Moaning Cavern’s zip lines, a round of golf at Greenhorn Creek, dinner at Sidewinders restaurant and an overnight stay at the Travelodge in Angels Camp. The leads from this drawing will be shared among the CVB, participating businesses in the giveaway, and Destination Angels Camp....

Thanks to an Economic Outreach Bridge Grant applied for by Pastor Doug Merritt of the Mountain Ranch Lutheran Church, the sum of $5000 has been received from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Thrivent is not-for-profit private foundation whose grants aid efforts to supply basic needs in communities such as food, clothing and shelter through the Lutheran Churches serving these areas...

Pine Grove, CA...Foothill Conservancy is pleased to announce the appointment of a new executive director, Cecily Smith. Cecily brings with her over 10 years’ experience working for environmental nonprofit organizations. Before joining the Foothill Conservancy, Cecily was the Water Resources Specialist for Prairie Rivers Network, Illinois’ only statewide river protection and conservation nonprofit. Her program work included reform of Illinois water supply management policies and reviewing and writing comments on Section 404 dredge and fill permit applications to the Army Corps of Engineers. She also worked toward reform of the Corps’ project processes and management policies on the Upper Mississippi River....
