Calaveras Supervisors Honor Superintendent of Schools Kathy Northington's 40 Year of Service as an Educator

San Andreas, CA...Retiring Calaveras Superintendent of Education Kathy Northington was honored this morning at the Board of Supervisors Meeting. Kathy attended school at Wallace and Valley Springs elementary schools, graduated from Calaveras High School in 1969 and attended California State University, Sacramento, where she received her bachelor’s degree in child development and her teaching credentials. Kathy returned to Calaveras County as a teacher at Rail Road Flat, Valley Springs and Copperopolis elementary schools from 1977-1987. While teaching she continued her education and received her master’s degree in school administration from the University of San Francisco in 1985.

San Andreas, CA...A recent article reported on Capital Public Radio, and covered by other media outlets erroneously states that funds tied to the County’s cannabis regulatory program have been misspent by some County Departments, most notably the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department.

Economy Adds 209,000 Jobs in July, Unemployment Rate Little Changed at 4.3 Percent

Washington, DC....Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 209,000 in July, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 4.3 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in food services and drinking places, professional and business services, and health care. Household Survey Data, Both the unemployment rate, at 4.3 percent, and the number of unemployed persons, at 7.0 million, changed little in July. After declining earlier in the year, the unemployment rate has shown little movement in recent months.
San Andreas, CA...Beginning on 7/31/17 the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, The California National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, California State Water Board, Central Valley Regional Water Board, Calaveras County District Attorney's Office, California Highway Patrol and CalFire began the service of 23+ search warrants through Calaveras County relating to multiple ongoing criminal investigations regarding the illegal cultivation of marijuana and directly related environmental crimes.

Ranger District Front desks on Stanislaus National Forest are Closed Wednesday

Sonora, CA...The front desks at Calaveras, Summit and Mi-Wok Ranger Districts and the Forest Supervisor’s Office in Sonora will be closed Wednesday so employees may attend some vital training. Groveland Ranger District front desk will remain open thanks to assistance from volunteer staffers.
All front desks on the Forest will reopen on Thursday for normal hours of operation.
CCA Says...$9,943,167.56 in Taxes and Fees Already Collected on Cannabis in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras Cannabis Alliance confirmed via Tax Collector Barbara Sullivan that as of August 1, 2017, $6,943,167.56 in Measure C Tax has been collected. These taxes were on top of the $3 million in fees collected via the Urgency Ordinance Registration in Spring/Summer 2016. According to the Internal Revenue Service, only 64% of Americans required to pay income tax do so. Calaveras Cannabis farmers came it at an impressive 81%. Also, District 4 Supervisor Dennis Mills predicted the county would not see more than $2 million in Measure C Tax revenue, nearly $5 million less that collected in the first installment.
